Without background playback is useless.
BTW, probably shouldn't say this, but both Spotify and YouTube allow you to listen to what song you want in the background for free. They just need a little convincing :))

if the service will allow background playing. then sure. ^^ youtube has a MUCH crazier amount of songs available. (If I'm not mistaken, and basing on the VEVO service, we're talking about a staggering 286m songs. that's about twice more than DEEZER+SPOTIFY+AppleMusic together)

No background playback? A "music" app that forces you to stare at the album art? That's video streaming not music, and free versions of these apps are pretty useless on mobile anyway.

"A YouTube Music Premium account will cost you $9.99 each month removing the ads and restrictions but it's still double what Spotify charges so we'll see what other perks Google plans to throw in justify the difference." Double...? Are they high? Spotify Premium costs the same 9.99 $!

Someone needs to pay the artists and if everyone can listen to their music without using a premium subscription, this wouldn't be fair. So stand by Spotify on that. And besides, $5-10 isn't all that much compared to what you get in return - unlimited access to a huge music library.

Geric.770, 17 May 2018So Google Play Music will be replaced by this streaming music by YouTube?Nope. They are totally different apps.
As far as I can see, Play Music is more of an offline music player than an online music player.
This app will compete with the likes of Spotify, and I hope that in unpaid version, we would at least get the ability to play the song that we actually want to listen to, instead of giving us no right to choose the specific song that we want to hear like Spotify does.
I have no hopes, just so I will be impressed when it's actually true, and not feel bad when it's true.
