AnonD-751523, 23 May 2018I don't think phasing out other ports is considered moving forward... At all. Yeah, no. Never.... moreWe've phased out the cassette, CD, floppy, and many other things. Technology moves forward to better things and we have to move with it.

Yeah, no. Never. You can't expect a laptop with nothing at all be useful. It'll be a fancy doorstop with a screen.

My Essential came with a 29W USB-C power adapter. Apple makes a 29W power adapter, why go to the trouble of developing and certifying a new design around the world when they could just change the port on an existing one? Would it really be that much cheaper?

AnonD-751523, 22 May 2018Hope you're aware that people still want traditional ports, lol.Maybe backwards people do. People who want the world to move forward with tech don't want the old ports, we want a single port that can deliver HDMI, power, data and so on. It's called USB-C and it's perfect for notebooks. Mobile devices will be portless eventually.

Geric.770, 22 May 2018Finally, you realise now that USB C is the future Apple?Apple adopted USB-C in the form of Thunderbolt years ago on their Macbooks. They know USB-C is the future, because even nobodies like you and me know that. The iPhone won't mvoe to USB-C because Apple wants to make the iPhone completely wireless, as evidenced by them removing the headphone jack. Once wireless charging improves, you can bet the lightning port is going away and replaced with nothing.

androfox, 22 May 2018Don't get why apple is not using USB C outside the MacBook. Well, I do get it, more money as u... moreBecause Apple's plan is to make the iPhone portless. No point in moving to USB-C when we're 2-3 years from that.

Apple had been quite adventurous lately. 18W charger, and now USB-C ... Credit for their courage.

Cheaper like what?
In Apple store here in Slovakia original plug cost 25 euros and 25 cost cable.
In my shop it cost 34,50 for both.
And chinese variant the one not certified by apple cost 12,50 per cable and 10 per plug.
Thats still expensive.
On wish site you can get theses for less than 5 eur.
Apple is crazy mad insane company which needs to be good fined from courts for a massive overpricing.
Rubber spiked whip on you apple. Nothing less you deserve :-)

apple needs to get with the program and drop lightning already. usb c has many featues one of which include usb PD. too much money to be lost by the sheep. i want to slap every person that tells me i need to get an iphone so "i" have an extra lighting cable for them to charge their phone. screw that. it's called usb for a reason. UNIVERSAL serial bus. so easy to convert but that status or whatever it is keep them dumbed down. yeah. we know what you want. and they continue to try and tout they're the most secure thing in the universe and their data is untouchable. with an advertising slogan we know what you want is a thing that makes you go HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....

Rayne, 21 May 2018The cost to make it only cost a fraction but apple takes 3 times the profit OnePlus 1m Cable costs $ 15. 1,50m cable costs $ 20. original cables always cost that much. I would rather look for a good quality cable on amazon for 7€ or so.
