At that time QC was still leading the way. Unfortunately QC rushed to 64bit, not to let Apple go away with it, and it massively backfired with the SD808 and 810. SD820 was back to custom cores but lack of planning and development funds meant they've fallen behind Apple even further, so what we got for the SD835 and 845 is I think plan B, that is semi-custom cores, with good 20-30% performance and 10-15% efficiency gains on previous generation, in line with the Cortex ones (A73 vs A75). The good part is we're no longer getting experiment like with the 810/820. The nasty part, and I see nobody is really having the heart to tell, is that going semi-custom and at ARM's rhythm, they're never going to catch Apple. Perhaps QC understood that and is not even trying to compete anymore.

Powerful but useless SoC, because the software cannot make a good use all of its power. At best you can render 4K videos faster, but that would only be meaningful if you're a vlogger or something. Most of the time multitasking between social media apps and most gaming will eat only a fraction of it. W-A-S-T-E-D.

(like they did back then in 2012 with Krait cores.) and that costs a massive amount of money. money that sadly qualcomm cannot afford. so they just lightly tweak the cortex core. and name them Kryo.

The X86 and ARM architecture refer to the software side of the CPU, and SoCs in generals.
the X86, originating from the ancient CPU called the 8086 by intel in 1976-1979. is a backwards compatible system that can range from the most modern i7-8700k to the 8086 40 years ago. and so is Arm. (As long the instruction set is compatible with the older CPU systems.)
DIE SIZE. and LITHOGRAPHY. means how tiny are the transistors. it doesn't even correlate to the architecture aside of the physical aspect of building it.

If rumors are true its going to be very powerful according to the benchmark scores. lets wait and see. what this year both manufacturers bring.

if the geekbench scores are to be believed. we're talking about x1.4 the score of Exynos 9810. (that's about 5200 points ON A SINGLE CORE! compared to 3700 of the mongoose M3) and a staggering 13,000 on multi. (I think that's about x1.45 compared to both the multicore score of Snapdragon 845 and the exynos 9810)
