tele optics are quite large, so there is less space for sensor.
Anonymous, 27 May 2018Wider aperture does not mean it is better.
It is amount of light in per area unit. So f1.... moredude as you said by your self with a bigger sensor you need bigger lens BUT
even if an F/1.5 lens on an S9 is the same size as the F/2.0 on the XZ2 BUT
it won't give the same low light results as the S9 why?
Because the XZ2 sensor is to big it needs a matching F/number (since the F number compare between the sonser and the lens size)
so F/1.5 on the XZ2 os bigger then the S9 BUT gives the same result
I mean since the field of view is lens based you can change the lens of the camera an BOOM X2 ZOOM
now imagine a mechanism switching between the lens (like Nokia 9 camera model) no need for a low end Zoomer you can do it with one!
and can't manufacturs at least unable telephoto ZOOM? (assuming that a second camera with a the same specifications as the main camera is to big or to expensive)
and by the way F/2.2 is the same as F/1.7? Samsung j7 has F/1.7 and it can snap a near noise less image even in low light
and the Motorola Moto X4 lost a LOT of profurmence when they down graded the lens form F/1.7 to 2.0 concedering the super large dual pixel flagship sensor (not just low light but even in gokd light
Time when phone camera beats quality DSLR is not even close by thats justifies all so having a 1000 eur phone for having am potstanding camera as most advertising ssays its a one big lie.
Print it on a A4 screen and you will see how bad your camera is.
Decent midranger does same photos as flagship if we print both on a large paper.
Thats says for all.
But maybe one day we will see the bright light and a phone will do similar photos to a Nikon or Cannon DSR cameras untill that phone for 400 is more than enough and for a difference between 400 eur phone and a flagship price we can buy a nice camera from well known brand.
Great innovations by HTC.
Monochrome got no future? You got probably no idea that even human's eyes see in B&W in very dark situations. Could, only Could be omitted in future if there is enough of other sensors. Also until someone finds a way to put aps-c sensor in 8mm thin body, multiple cameras will stay. Be it stacking or hdr stacking is done better if its used simultaneously on one sensor with getting lower resolution or on multiple to get bigger one, so it captures it in less time, getting less blur.
For now most used is color+monochrome, but in near future it may be just color ones, one for Red, two for Green, one for Blue, so we will get better quality also true color resolution.
As to why was 3D not successful, is clear, as most of screens works in 2D without glasses still even now. Zoom-in was alway wanted, super wide is better to show more natural, as seen shots/videos, but as it suffers from little to no interest(in phones), while you can look even at 180 degree 3D media using even cheap VR and phone, VR is actually not working even in most mid-range phones.
Aperture changing camera is also awesome as its another thing that helps achieve something similar to what full size cameras can do.
As phones are thin, the only way to increase quality is to use sensors side by side and combining them, or use some new superior sensor technology.

It is amount of light in per area unit. So f1.7 on 1/1.3" is smaller than f1.7 on 1/2.5". Also smaller than f2.0 on 1/2.3".
It is just a way to fool costumer. They want to.to believe it is better. Look at cameras, most common lenses are f3.0 - f5.5 ... It is pretty rare to see f1.4, f1.8 or f2.0 for DSLR/MIRRORLESS.
They also dont inform you that different values of f change DEPTH OF FIELD. Not just how much light goes inside.
Why do midranges still usually have f2.0, f2.2 etc?
Because they are old lenses that used to for flagships years ago, same quality.
Sony uses f2.0 since Z1, of course the lenses of XA2 are not the same used for XZ Premium. Not same quality.
Same for the f1.7 lenses of A8, not ssme used for S8

for example A... more"why do telephoto cameras ALWAYS have lower specifications then the main camera?"
Because that's just how optics works. To have the same sized sensor they would need to make the lens longer, resulting in a thicker phone or a jutting camera bump. Look at professional camera lenses, telephoto lenses are always longer with narrower apertures.

Nokia changed the camera game since the 1020 with its high 41MP camera and large sensor. PureView 808 is still my favourite old smartphone camera until now (New flagships aside).
why do telephoto cameras ALWAYS have lower specifications then the main camera?
for example ALMOST (if not ALL) 12MP large pixel cameras telephoto cameras have F/2.4 to 2.6 and only 1um pixel size (compare to average of F/1.8 and 1.25/1.4 up pixel size) and then complain about the low light quality
is the main camera THAT expensive? you can't fit is behind a telephoto lens?
I want to point out that some brands (looking at you Apple) fix the problem by cropping the output of the main camera to trick there costumers just to remind you that telephoto cameras are UNuseable in low light (batter the oppo F7 single camera "telephoto" digital zoom)
another question why is wider aperture hard to make and exclusive for high end? are they price?
and if the field of view is lens based can't someone use a motor to switch between to lens? or move the camera?
can any one answer those questions?

Breaking news, Nokia 7+ is not even same level of A8 or XA2 Ultra.
I think it is stupid the fact optical zoom is only used by telephoto and not main camera.
Telephoto is always simpler hardware compared to main camera.
Geric.770, 27 May 2018Nokia was a legendary company, but DxOMark scored the PureView 808 by 61. (DxO Labs is a bias... moreI agreed with your comment. Nokia doesn't want to pay for DxO because they have no money. Remember, "No money= bad DxO score" right??? And other Chinese brands are paying a lot of money to DxO just to score 100 and above even if there camera sensor or quality is a piece of "SHIT"!!!! So never trust DxO and others.
