Anonymous, 25 May 2018Rubin's phone is definitely non-essential ...Most non-essential brand and phone ever.
Funny, everything is backwards nowadays. Like "liberal" is someone who fights against, not for freedom. Same with phones. Huawei's "pro" series are much lamer than the "non-pro" versions.

What. A. Moron. A bunch of us called it from day one. Yes it's nice. Yes it's premium but NO it's not an iPhone or Galaxy S. OnePlus and Xiaomi had the right business model: you build UP to the premium phones but first you start with a strong foundation of low and mid-rangers at cutthroat prices that offer optimal performance. Essential should've basically copied Xiaomi's model but did it for the US and Western markets. Focus on camera, reliability, battery life, pixel density, price, and wide usability. Pack as many antennas into it as possible and forget about all the fancy crap like fingerprint scanners, gesture controls and obscure build materials. That would've made it "Essential".

You could see this outcome from a mile away. The company raised a billion dollars but sold less than 200K phones. Sooner or later you run out of money no matter how much money you have at the beginning.

Most bankrupt companies launch phones with an absurd pricetag. Look at HTC.
Now look at oneplus and Xiaomi. Look at their prices. We dno't care how fancy a phone looks. We just want an optimized software, good cameras, newest operating system, regular updates, some features at a good price point.
The essential phone used an LCD panel, It has expensive titanium glass (which is still expensive to produce) and came with so many bugs at a such high price point that drove many people away.
No wonder it only sold 150k units, while this, oneplus sells millions and xiaomi tens of millions

AnonD-758931, 25 May 2018Unfortunately, their reputation is now damaged regardless of their current situation. I think... moreI think they didn't. Nobody in the mobile industry seems to learn, they are totally detached from reality. HTC is another example. They keep insisting on removing the 3.5mm jack. Doing the same over and over, expecting a different result...they are trully insane.

And Essential? They don't even have any history, so no fan-boys to buy despite all the cons (And no Pros). They are even more insane.

Unfortunately, their reputation is now damaged regardless of their current situation. I think they learned some hard lessons with the PH-1, but they are certainly doomed now.

Geric.770, 25 May 2018The iconic Notch, titanium build, zero naming on the body, and special camera and magnetic hol... moreAnd mediocre battery. And the "iconic" notch is a con, not a pro, especially when there is a bottom bezel despite that abomination (notch).

Anonymous, 25 May 2018i will pass it, this phone is almost not repairableIt's entirely repairable, if you're not counting on videos of amateurs destroying the screen to get to the internals. It takes finesse and patience, but they are extremely modular and repairable once opened.

Turning to bankers to raise money now? Really? Wow. So desperate. Just shut down that useless company. Rubin, you not doing this right. Leading a company but he himself diesnt even know what best things to do for his company. A clueless leader is the last thing Essential need right now. And saying it out loud like "I dont know" is even worst.

That's too bad. IMO The only thing bad in the PH1 was the camera. If they had just made it better, it would have been a Legendary device.

Xhxhyy, 25 May 2018It's the One Hit Wonder smartphone. Good notch but too far ahead of time.If it were a one hit wonder, Essential PH-1 would've been a breakout success.
