A company of resources should of all things be able to make sensible, accountable choices. Given that I could not in my wildest dreams hope for similar leniency if I were subject to (scaled) penalties of a similar severity for my own person.....
I'm firmly in the camp of "throw the book at them", because until then the law is simply something to be debated. GM killed people to save cents on the dollar, and despite being a patent violation of the law, they simply factored it into economics and decided it was still a winner.
Given that these corporations cannot possibly plead ignorance, when they do misbehave, I would love to see them crucified. What better way to teach a bunch of miscreants than burn one down? If ZTE bankrupted itself due to this, I guarantee you sanctions and such would not be seen as some idle threat to be violated on a whim.
And again, perhaps it's the cynicism and plebian spite in me, but I could not ever hope for similar leniency for far less serious things, so I'm not fond of an olive branch being extended to those who have even more than I do screwing up in ways I never would.
Agreed. Going bankrupt would've been much clever for ZTE...
It’s better for ZTE closed its business and saved the 1.3 billion fine. In addition, the American companies are losing the billions of sales to ZTE.
Open a new company and start buying from European companies of “ chips” for their phones. Never fall for trump’s greediness and intimation..
Moral of the story: Easiest way to get rich => Rob
Ops, we almost forgotten, history tell us that's how westerner become rich.
Anonymous, 26 May 2018Better this than other way round. Never trust a commie.Wow! The foolishness of this comment( or you). One, Does people still think that the Chinese (or China is a communist ) ? Cause that would so dumb to exactly think that!. Two, if I'm getting spy on, I would rather is not the guy that I'm living with but another guy living on another side of the world ( I mean, what are gonna do with knowing I watched porn a lot on my phone? Ship me another better and bigger phone?)
The Media Man wants to spy on everything. How ridiculous old guy he is!
Anonymous, 26 May 2018Better this than other way round. Never trust a commie.But...., commie is so rich and their money is so sweet. Lift the banned get the 1.3 billions fine and ZTE will continue buying US product. How sweet it is. Beautiful way to enjoy life.
a good way to earn money, "FINE everyone that not do what I say"
It's very funny how us citizens worry about their security from communist (lol) zte but have absolutely no problem with fb, apple, google etc.
ZTE crap fones, anyhow
Lol. So - ZTE was dealing with Iran and the US then sanctioned dealings with Iran but then forgot ZTE was making major purchases from the US for its dealings with Iran and it would be shooting itself in the foot. So then make an exception.
So now ZTE will be under surveillance of nsa and only America are allowed to spy on their users. Great deal.
Probably a new Trump hotel will open in Shanghai or Beijing...
Most powerful economic was/is US's poppet..
May 15, 2018 - Report: China Has Committed $500 Million to Indonesian Development That Will Include Trump Hotels and a Trump Golf Course
So? One fine after another? Let's give you a fine, then banned you, and then ask for another higher fine ( as a deal)?
