A company of resources should of all things be able to make sensible, accountable choices. Given that I could not in my wildest dreams hope for similar leniency if I were subject to (scaled) penalties of a similar severity for my own person.....

I'm firmly in the camp of "throw the book at them", because until then the law is simply something to be debated. GM killed people to save cents on the dollar, and despite being a patent violation of the law, they simply factored it into economics and decided it was still a winner.

Given that these corporations cannot possibly plead ignorance, when they do misbehave, I would love to see them crucified. What better way to teach a bunch of miscreants than burn one down? If ZTE bankrupted itself due to this, I guarantee you sanctions and such would not be seen as some idle threat to be violated on a whim.

And again, perhaps it's the cynicism and plebian spite in me, but I could not ever hope for similar leniency for far less serious things, so I'm not fond of an olive branch being extended to those who have even more than I do screwing up in ways I never would.

It’s better for ZTE closed its business and saved the 1.3 billion fine. In addition, the American companies are losing the billions of sales to ZTE.
Open a new company and start buying from European companies of “ chips” for their phones. Never fall for trump’s greediness and intimation..

Lol. So - ZTE was dealing with Iran and the US then sanctioned dealings with Iran but then forgot ZTE was making major purchases from the US for its dealings with Iran and it would be shooting itself in the foot. So then make an exception.

So? One fine after another? Let's give you a fine, then banned you, and then ask for another higher fine ( as a deal)?
