There is no point. Latest apu only need 9 watt, with full x86-64, sse, avx etc instructions, upto 2x64 bit memory interface, and Tera flops gpu power. Current 845 need 3-5 watt, but only 4x16 bit memory interface, and 0.8 (?) tflops maximum gpu throughput. Also, windows 10 is worst version ever, forcing untested updates to pcs, causing unfixable bootloop on 3 out of 9 pcs in my home. Reinstall same pc twice a day IS NOT fun

Well, developing full Windows on ARM would have been useful in the past. Imagine phones with Windows instead of Windows Mobile or Windows Phone, or ARM devices running XP instead of CE. Microsoft would have no limits. Of course, their are ARM apps running on Windows, and this chip means ARM architecture support for years to come. I would think power efficiency and cellular technologies are where the strengths of this chip lie. I do think it is amazing how powerful these chips really are getting. This Snapdragon 850 should rival a Pentium D, in terms of performance that is, not heat. The A11 Bionic chip rivals a Core 2 Duo in terms of strength.

One thing I'd want to see is manufacturers make large, thick, heavy laptops again that have all the ports and features, with the right amount of performance, and an imaginative software experience(Windows 10 doesn't do it for me). Aspect ratio and heat are optional, but can add to the experience.

pl2rts, 31 May 2018I dont see the point of these to be honest. They can consume less battery but there price will... moreThe purpose of them is they are LTE and Intel chips are not.

YoloBS, 01 Jun 2018Snapdragon's laptop should be cheaper than intel once ,but they don't and that's the problem. ... moreYeap these need to be mid grade Chromebook price.

I'd love a Windows laptop with 20hr battery life though.

the "Windows on ARM" project is, from the start, don't appeal anyone.

With Windows apps behaviors, RAM usage, out-of-order execution, RISC vs CISC, and several more issues, which is widely known for tech-savvy for a while, no one will be interested enough to buy SD850-powered laptops, let alone Desktops.

For now, potential buyer will be more likely to see how the Ryzen fare in mobile processors, whether they can do better over the Desktop counterparts or not, as the Desktop Ryzen processors are as powerful as i5 and fall short of i7 (one of the reason why Intel launched i9 in a "hurry" after 8 years of "lazying around").

Well, I am one of those interested to see how QC will fare, will they success and become the new Intel rival in mobile processors, or will they screw up, and scrap this "ambitious and risky" plan to focus on mobile SoC business?

Anonymous, 31 May 2018I don‘t think a SD 845 is more expensive than an i5. Those cost € 350, and I thought the Snapd... moreI bought i5 4570 some 4 years ago for under 200 euro as a brand new as the cpu was out less then half a year. Ok this was for PC and not laptop and even on PC today you can buy 70 euro intel pentium G series that can very well clock speeds up and beat most of the i3 series and they cost twice more then G series does. And while these SD835 versions of these laptops go around 600+ euro then you can get a lot better versions for that money that are new or year 2 old model. Heck you can even get gaming laptops for that price

I dont see the point of these to be honest. They can consume less battery but there price will still be high over AMD and Intel that everyone already know and know how they work and how reliable they are.
