I have a Huawei Mate 10. The day I will need to replace it, if no phone with display ratio 16:9 exists, then I will probably go back to an old school Nokia.
I really hate all other screen ratios.

Those having older phone in 2017 and 2018 modal will most likely upgrade their phone in 2020, 2021 or 2022, they will face Display Aspect Ratio Shock, jump from 16:9 to 20:9, unless they get a Super Big Size Phone to compensates smaller image issue.
Phone manufacturer not revised this until most user changed their smartphone.
The first criteria I searching for phone to upgrade in 2021 is Wider Screen either 16:9 or 19:9, then the Right Display Size that suit me 6.5 inch to 7 inch. Processor / RAM / Camera / Features / Brand / Price was secondary important.
I ended up buying Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra = 6.9 inch 19.3:9 aspect ratio.
My main disappointment when changing Smartphone in 2021, is the 20:9 aspect ratio screen, everything is smaller now.
Moving from Huawei Mate 10 (5.9 inch 16:9 ratio) to Samsung Galaxy S21+ (6.7 inch 20:9 ratio), expecting the screen size to be larger, but the Tall Phone Effect has caused the image, video and wording smaller, I’m not able to enjoy reading, watching video and photo like before, need to zoom in and enlarge most of the time.
How to tell the Phone Company to bring back 16:9 or 18:9 for future smartphone design?
Please stop the stupid 20:9 for Smartphone.

keyboards are too narrrow in 19:8 and in that 21:9 kind of phones, and reading is also not pleasant. give us 16:9 back.
Please return to 16:9 !! At least no more than 18:9..
When you browse or read a document, best format is 16:9.
The much longer formats result in either too narrow or too shallow display.
Considering the ease of handling (so, not too wide) can go with Samsung previous 18.5:9.
But even longer formats are ridiculous. They aim to give larger inches, but eventually with less surface.
And phones then are obliged to dump the notification led and multiple top cameras that were super useful. And punch a hole in the screen!
Please use 18:5 aspect, thin border on top, no border bottom, minimal bezel, no curve and yes 3.5" jack.
16:9 is the best and I can manage with 18:9 as the last limit. I don't know why the companies are creating so many taller displays which doesn't seems to have any extra benefit.
16:9 ratio is best

I own a Huawei mate 10 which is 3 years old and not going to change it until it die for lack of a 16:9 replacement
I just bought a Motorola One Ace. Love the phone for so many reasons... "Except" the stupid tall, skinny screen 🙁 I'd have paid an extra $100 if it had been the same height, but 1/2" wider.... Or should I say, a 16:9.
In fact I'd have probably chosen a different phone, just to have a 16:9 ratio, but looking around, I didn't really see any great options, that included a 16:9 🙁
Honestly, I figured I must be one of the few who cared about a wider format screen. But looking through the responses here, it seems I'm in the majority !? What the heck are manufacturers thinking anyway ?

Been scouting aliexpress and yes there are soem 16:9 ratio phones there but not new disigned , Best i found is UMIDIGI A3X . Anyone else have better tips ?
I want 16:9 ratio - the best for my needs.
Others want tall (e.g. 20:9) phones - OK, I can understand it.
However, I do not understand why ALL phones in the last years are tall, given the demand for 16:9. Can all phone producers be so stupid to miss the opportunity to increase sales?

I've had other phones and I keep going back to the old Google Nexus 6 (6-inch screen, 16:9 aspect ratio) because it's just easier to read and view. Think of it this way....The tall skinny phones are the equivalent of reading a long grocery receipt. Sure, there's lots of items on the screen, but at what cost? The wider phones, like mine at 16:9, are like reading a paperback book (or looking at my tv, laptop, and desktop monitor). Both have many words but one is easier on the ole eyes than the other. And I understand that movies are going to 18:9, and that's tolerable, but needs to stop there. That aspect ratio and skinnier are similar to the panoramic photo thing- which is cool but that's not how you take all of your pictures, right? So why would you want all your movies and videos like that? Next time you watch a video on your 20:9 phone measure the actual video diagonally and tell me how much screen you're actually using. You're certainly not using all of your 6.2" or whatever screen size your phone measures. In landscape my videos are the whole 6" x 3" screen. In portrait the videos are almost 3" wide....and I can still read the words easily underneath that video. I'd need a giant phone to get that same viewing window in the taller aspect ratios, which really is just too much device to lug around. I'm telling you...if someone puts out a "Retro" 16:9 phone with good specs people would buy it.
I cannot believe how garbage this industry has gone. 16:9 IS the absolute best gold ratio. Looking at my old Xiaomi Max I get the same screen size as watching my TV whenever I carry it at eye level. Consuming content on Youtube and websites is GOLDEN.
I am so sad I cannot find a better equivalent that is available in Europe.
