I've found it almost impossible to find anything as wide as a mate 9 that is fully functional on Verizon. There's tons & tons of gsm options, but GSM isn't an option for me. I'd love a mate 20 x, but again, it's gsm. Anyone know if a Verizon compatable Mate 20 x alternative, IDC if it's a cheap budget phone, just something as wide, that works on Verizon.
I swear these tall skinnies have destroyed my eyesight. Ever since the first introduction of them I've felt cross-eyed trying to view the screen.
I will never buy anything taller than 16:9. Period. I'll go without a smartphone but I will never move to these remote controllers. The trend is appalling.
16:9 forever!
16:9 is great, I'm still on an S7 trying to figure out what to buy from the current pile of b$ 18:9 and higher ration phones.
Really living sad days in this regard.
16:9 aspect ratio is good for gaming !!!! Most pubg mobile use iPhone 8 plus bcs of the screen ratio. It gives you more viewing angle than 19:9 and above
I refuse to buy a new phone and have a stock of good 16:9 Xperia xa2 ultras as it is the last one with this aspect ratio
Sony or any other maker in fact should add the option of having the phones with either 16:9, 18:9, 19.5/9, 21:9. THAT would be groundbreaking...
I understand that for facebook, or social media taller aspects are better, but youtube, messaging and websites feel more at home with 16:9... and that's what some of us are interested in
Cheers
i prefer 16/9 as it a perfect size / proportion for a mobile screen. qwerty keyboard has more space & as such there is less likely hood of pressing 2 keys at one moment. photos & written words have more horizontally.

So what I said a few months ago still stands except that IGTV doesn't force portrait videos anymore. They stopped forcing portrait videos in mid-2019 (before my original comment) I believe. And I forgot to discuss the fact that One UI and iOS both use large titles and whitespace to aid users because of their tall screens. I think that 16:9 "bezel-less" phones would be much easier to handle but manufacturers haven't given them a chance and therefore prove to us that it's they who dictate the market, not us.
i don't mind tall screen ratio on the phone, it is good for social media and messenger. but i still absolutely want my tablet to be 9:16, it is perfect for watching video and screen mirroring to another display.
Anonymous, 06 Jun 2018According your statement taller display ratio have more extensive multimedia entertainment, so... moreactually screen sizes are MUCH much bigger in 16.9 format, u really got brainwashed ... yes scrn size 21:9 is more inch diagnol but with a loss of about 15 % volume of scrn.. wake up!!~!~~!!! oke?
Anonymous, 06 Jun 2018The only reason why people vote for 18:9 is that they already own a phone with 18:9 screen and... morepeople who believe in 18:9 need Re-education Consent Camps... SAME as 5g-ers' they are losing they Gosh Darn Minds. Can i GET AN AMEN OUT THERE.. geez these people are crazy.. not being rude. just honest.... they have 0 argument Unless they only use there phone for texting .... to be fair :)
It's 2019 now. We now know what other aspect ratios feel like. Devices feel very tall and are indeed taller. One hand usage has been sacrificed. Stories, a format picked up by Instagram/Facebook and YouTube which came from Snapchat crop and resize to your phone. You'll often be losing things. Having one ratio is great. IGTV forces you to publish in 16:9. Not to mention the rise of TikTok. The popularity of stories pretty much begs for one single ratio but it should really be letterboxed.
The issue of interfaces taking up a lot of vertical space should not be solved by taller screens.
Zooming into a video means you crop some of the video out. Pretty much most content on YouTube is 16:9. But I'll admit it, 18:9 aka 2:1 is great for commercially produced shows/films. Netflix for example has a lot of 2:1 content.
Notches aren't really necessary and aren't a solution. And we still have a lot of bezel on say, the S10 (and iPhone X) and the camera "cutout" makes the notification bar bigger.
Best of the best 16:9 phone is Huawei Mate 10 (Not PRO).
16:9 ratio is better than the new ration 18:9
The problem is smartphone market is saturated and manufacturers are providing another pie to keep going ahead ...into the future.
Anonymous, 09 Jun 2018Does anyone know any other flagship level smartphones like the Huawei Mate 10 that have a 16:9... moreLG V20
16:9
You will lost the golden ratio soon!!
