It was a very clean OS with only one flaw that was the less app support, I would prefer Windows UI over Android and iOS. It was way better than Android.

Windows phone os was one of the best around, but it did not have app support. I have used Many phones in that gategory and They were much better than Android then. The IOs was better still. So it was battle against very big Google and very good Apple... hard job. So Yep, not likely that we see new systems in the future! Unless someone has huge amounth of money to put for 10 years of development and buying programmers to convert millions of apps to that system and Also provide support... noup... no sensible economically.
Linux based phones has long been so minor, minority among phones that only some developers and other geeks use them just because They Are cool. And you can do fansy things with Linux command line. Yep Yep... not for light hearted customers.

Windows Mobile had a chance to be good, but in my opinion it was never as comfortable to use as Androids are. There is still one Lumia in my family being used, but that will be replaced with an Android phone this year. My 60+ years old dad hates his Lumia, just like mom hated hers too.

As with other things like the web, Microsoft did not take the mobile phone market real serious until too late. Microsoft thought it could wing it, that a few adjustments to Windows here and there would be enough to make it work for mobile with its dominance on the desktop spilling over onto mobile phones preventing people from considering alternatives. And thank you for that.

Well to be honest people dislike Windows even on PC so in mobile phone industry it was a total dissaster glad its gone.
But to be hionest android is was ad will be nuumber one maybe forewer.
But in case of IOS ro Windows i rather like Windows than IOS.
IOS is too complicated restricting you from everything.
You cant even plug your PC with Iphone and transfer data from one device to another even for a such easy task you have to use some stupid program.

I had to use Nokia 625 for few weeks. It was the worst smartphone experience I had ever have. Both in terms of bad hardware and bad software/ux.

The biggest problem is that those os are'nt available. In that time those os had a very big potential.. If not slugish web browsing and emails I would still use my BB 9900 or Q10 istead of XZ1 Compact, because for me really Compact is main thing.
Sorry for out of this post, but I'm sick of todays Compact/lite versions- for example Huawei P20- by the P20, P20 lite and Sony XZ1 Compact or first Iphone SE is very big difference in its size and main phone makers novadays make big phones like bricks. In my opinion, if You put phone on desk or somewhere similar place- it's okay to have big phone, butt to carry- reall compact is the winner for me.

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2018What happened was Microsoft removed the ads from YouTube and basically facilitated stealing fr... moreIMO, the YouTube app created by Microsoft was actually much better than what Google had at that time.

I think Microsoft asked Google for the API to insert adds in the app but Google refused. Hence, they had to shut down the app.

I think that's what happened to a lot of apps. Microsoft was ready to give developers money to bring their apps to the store, it was even ready to write apps for them, but many refused.

Slowest transitions and visual effects just hided slow working. And permanent "Resuming..." My HTC Radar still works and EVERYTHING working like a eye blink. Contacts, music, maps. But on 1520 lumia i have to wait 1.5-3 seconds per app to run. Or even higher, if we will tell about Camera app. M$ did bad to it's software. And hardware were crap after 20 series.

I miss Windows phone. It was simple and enough for most of the users. I had 3 Windows phone, so I am disspointed. In the near future I switch my android phone to iPhone because I am not satisfied with the google "world". I do not like that in Google business: the consumer not a customer any more, we are big data. If I pay a lot for a phone, I do not want to be a goods for Google services...

Microsoft... moreMS really thought their main cash cow, aka PCs, were going extinct soon. Can't blame them from trying to broaden their activity. Also I think they failed because they weren't used to competition, not since Windows XP and IE6.

This Company put Nokia to the Grave. Nokia had the biggest blunder in tying up with Microsoft rather than Android.

TBH, I'm fine with only Android and iOS around. Android is as good as the old PocketPC but improved. Tried the Windows phone - Windows Mobile phones but just can't get used to them. Not a fan of the tiles layout which looks like a chess board with "live" tiles flipping. The nail to the coffin are app supports. Yes, there a tons of alternatives 3rd party ones to the official apps. But still prefer official ones although most of them suck. Used the official Facebook Messenger app - late incoming messages, slow opening of messages and sometimes even hang. Apps quality and quantity between the Android / iOS ones and windows mobile are just miles apart.
TBH, even if MS ever release a Windows 10 phone, I'm not even sure it will make any differences at all.

WP is by far the best OS. I still use WP as my main phone, and keep a secondary android phone, but WP is far smoother, less glitchy, easier to use, and smacks iOS and android in the face when it comes to office/business
