From the Geekbench and the 2+4 configuration, I anticipate that this SD680 will be new, next-gen "Snapdragon 625", highly successful mid-range AP for the mass market. The coming SD710 is rather expensive and overkill for truly en mass. The SD680 strikes the right balance of performance, feature and the chip cost.

We will see long trains of new phone models released with SD 680 AP from next year. Especially, Xiaomi will introduce few 10's of new phone models with this chip over next 2 or 3 years until you are fed up with the chip, just like they did same with the SD 625 AP.

It will be really, really successful product for Qualcomm and Chinese phone vendors.

They should leave S6XX lines and Focus on S7XX lines waste of resources.
Anyway many competitors always use old 625 or 630 chipsets.

[deleted post]dude, the one who push customer to bought new products are oems. if qualcomm didn't want anyone to stay with older product, they wouldn't release updated BSP that capable for android P already for sd636, 660, and 835.

Lack of variety even if they keep releasing new chipsets like this. I dont know why but any phone using SD660 and above is pretty much having an almost flagship-like pricing instead of the midrange pricing it intended to be. Affordability is the real question if they want to sell this. Manufacturer keep releasing cheap sd450 devices or sd625 devices only.

                    and I'll expalin why:
Assuming the node is EXACTLY 7.000 Nanometer wide. The pulse sent to the ALU would be around 66.2% quicker and better accuracy (of unknown value, I haven't calculated that yet) compared to a 10nm node..
which is more in the 60~70% than 70~80

2+4 works much better in real world use, the 8 core chips always throttle massively.

For instance the S650 had 99% common things with S652 and S654 only difference whose core typology init script while kernel & all libs ware the same. I guess it will be the same for the S710 - S680. The 2+4 CPU setup is still most ideal as the 97% software never got to more than SMP 2. Guess we need new OoO two instructions per cycle (alike A73) design to replace in order A55's on 7nm so that a base working horse cores see the 70~80% integer jump in performance. Big one's ware & will always stay burst one's.

If Qualcomm is going to release so near to specifications chipsets so fast then the existing almost new chipsets are going to depriciate sooner and faster ,this would actually be a pressure on consumers because the mobile vendors like xaiomi just will stop giving updates and move to the newer chipsets ignoring earlier not so old phones, this needs to be checked ,unnecessary pressure on consumers to keep on buying every 2/3 months just to stay updated and receive support from the mobile vendors ,its not going to affect Qualcomm but users will be exploited by mobile companies
