The Note 8 is basically a productivity and professional-use phone, while the P20 Pro is just a large but conventional day-to-day smartphone sidekick.
Besides, as the specs you've mentioned, the phone itself has a rather measly battery size for what it is meant for. And I just don't rely on specs, the Note 8 simply doesn't deliver enough battery life for real power users, and certainly not on a proper flagship degree.
Right now, there's no competitor to this lineup, not the Mate nor the LG V series. Each of them are intended for different purposes.

Well deserved, the P20 Pro is the best phone of Q1.

Looking forward to the Mate 20 now 😉

          exactly, the rumor....soon... :)
no one can bit Adreno except NVIDIA and that is also a big question mark in mobile segment.
Except the GPU, there are many other things in chipset which makes SD more superior than Kirin.
not to mention xioami and asus gamer phones

I bought an unlocked Honor 9 from Huawei in December. In March I received the Oreo update, then in May I got another update which brought April security patch and face unlock.
It uses a last gen Kirin 960 processor, which performs great and play all the games i throw at it without issue. The phone will get a little warm, but nothing alarming. The harware is built well, but the glass back scratches easily, so beware. I am not sure if Huawei's flagships are built better. The software experience is akin to Apple's in the sense that both the processor and software is made in house by Huawei and it takes a couple design elements from IOS. That is a personal preference, but what can be said is that it is very fast and my phone in particular never stutters. This experience stays the same across the board for Huawei as far as I know. Hope this helps.

If I was to upgrade my phone now, it would be the P20 Pro. Just don't have any real reason to get rid of my current device, so I'm not going to do it.

It is a decent phone, but the rise is due to the incredible camera.

The downside to huawei is the following.

Locking down bootloaders in the coming weeks.
Stupid amount of variants for every location on the planet instead of 1 or 2
Only sending updates out to the EU version of the device
No P20 Pro in the US

Believe me there is no way that an 81% increase in sales is going to repeated next year, I would never buy another huawei, predominantly because of the bootloader locking but also because of the variants and the need to debrand simply to acquire updates.

Huawei are pulling a HTC and they'll regret it, giants fall all the time, Huawei will be next because of their sales / device choices.

Recently I go to any mobile news, reviews or anything else on GSMArena all I see is people bashing the phone or the brand. Apple is Crapple, Samsung is Shamesung, Oneplus sniffs user data etc.
So end of the day which mobile should I buy for my wife who currently uses iPhone 5s and wanna try android as she is not tied into iOS. Irrespective of budget and any particular phone, mostly all brands have good cheap/entry level phones, mid rangers and flagships. So my question is which brand to prefer for build quality, stability, long term use and after sales service.

Why Huawei combine all the P20 series? It is for advertising more than told you the facts? Marketing can be cool but in reality is another words!!
