H-1, 19 Jun 2018I don't think it's "to match snapdragon" It might be capable of 120 fps/4k, but for how long?... moreCould you tell us why you would need more than 10-30sec of 4k video in 120fps?
slo-mo video are on phones as a fancy feature, its not made to compete with proper cameras that need to record such hi fps footage for movies.

Actually as far as I know more than 75% of people never use full resolution of photos/videos and they just upload compressed/resized content to social media. Small percentage use hi-res images taken using phones to print them or use in professional media editing. Even less use full res 4k videos taken using phone in any other way. Even most of YouTubers prefer using dslr cameras even if their phones are seriously close in quality compared to those cameras.

It might be capable of 120 fps/4k, but for how long? Snapdragon could also be capable of doing that. But the thing is, would you offer your users 120 fps/4k which is limited to 10 seconds?
I'm just speculating here, though, no proof whatsoever.

H-1, 19 Jun 2018Maybe less efficient, but some people just want the mongoose's raw power and can't bother abou... moreBetter analogue is people who want a strong & powerful disel car for a city driving because it uses less fuel & then they end up in problems because car bricks as it whose never designed for that. Even S845 A75 design is to much & uses 60% more power than A73's on S835 final effect is that you get even worse (sustainable) performance in high demanding graphics tasks (games) with S845 than with S835 all do new series 6 Adrenos are more efficient because CPU eats more than efficiency advantage of the GPU leaving less power headroom to it. New Mongoose fort generation core's are overkill not only for the 10nm FinFET they are based upon but probably & for forthcoming 7nm on the other hand A76 looks well suited for 7nm.

I do agree with you that Snapdragon and Exynos versions (like the S5) are supposed to be globally available. (I kinda regret having the Exynos S9... I wanna switch out to Snapdragon version)

Sounds good. While they're at it, they could do with fixing the issues with performance regarding their latest exynos chip, which arguably isn't as good as the last couple years' iterations relative to the competition.
