As in tell users that... moreThats well and good to void the warranty, but the point is the phones were working as intended until apple snuck their little trojan ransomware (i'm going to call it that because essentially that was what it is) in their IOS update which when it detected third party repairs bricked the phone. The point is that the quality of repair is not in question the issue is apples underhanded tactics with their OS
With all due respect, read the article ;)
They bricked the phone. Whilst Australian Consumer Law (quite rightly) agrees with the manufacturer's right to void warranty under these circumstances, to disable the device entirely is a hell of a rort.

For Example, If you brought a watch off me and after a while you decide you don't like the strap. So you go to another place and get a new strap and then the next day you find out the watch has stopped working. DO you think it would be acceptable to bring the watch back to me? The answer is no because it's not what I sold you.
The principle is the same here. You brought an Apple phone off Apple, not an Apple phone with a fake Apple screen or battery. Logically it makes sense and why it is the case all over Europe, clearly the commissioner is dumbfound and plainly ignorant in this case.
Apple or not, this is a bit silly. The manufacturer reserves the right to void a warranty if the insides were tampered with - no matter how little. Strange law there, Australia.

As in tell users that they will void their warranty if the device is opened by anyone else than MY skilled and trained technicians. And I wouldn't certify any other party to do this. This is because only MY company and employees have the necessary skills, tools, and proper training to handle such complex hardware and have the same high QC standards as in the factory.
People who do not agree to be profiled by any ad selling companies use iPhones as well (and iPads), along with people who want to be bothered as least as possible by lag, stutter, glitches, unoptimized software, underdeveloped user interface, apps force closing, malware threats, data breaches, data mining, user monitoring, security issues, inefficient updates, and so on. And almost forgot about those who want to have access to the latest and greatest, cutting-edge technology and user experience. (well-thought-off gestures, smart features, etc.)
Muhamashi18, 19 Jun 2018You have proof that Microsoft is like this?yes, Im running the IT in my company and they mislead at least one company - us ;)
Hopefully, Apple's company get burned and we're finally free of this dirty company. I don't talk about price or customer service I'm talking about slavery and all dirty things what Apple do all around the world. Apple caused so many deaths and made the life of millions of people hell to earn more. destroying our economy and playing with the market that's why all other manufacturers increase their prices.
Apple charged hell lot of amount for minor repairs, then its obvious customer look for more economic options. If Apple don't want its customers to go for unauthorised repairs they need to reduce prices.
Take a recent example, Apple internally lowered the processing of iphone when battery ages and in market it charged heavily for replacement battery. When this secret came to public they lowered the battery prices.
nik.007, 19 Jun 2018And people here in India are willing to pay a price that's double what iPhones should cost, sa... moreits all about status my friend. for some convoluted reason people see crapple iphone as a status symbol. I see it as a flashing "look at me i can walk upright" sign
.alpha, 19 Jun 2018Untrained repair guy broke your phone and you want Apple to give you a new one. The age we live in.Clueless aren't you. Did you read the article before commenting. the FIRMWARE/OS update bricked the phone not the repairs. Apple are like Unionists. If it ain't apple/union we ain't gonna work. It'd be like Sony/LG/Panasonic/ etc bricking your tv/blu ray player because you had Electronics Repair shop fix your PSU
Anonymous, 19 Jun 2018They should just stop selling their phones in Australia. It's perfectly normal for a device... moreYou're obviously not from australia. Factory warranty remains in place regardless of who services the vehicle as long as they are a licensed technician (mechanic). Your comment was probably the thickest most simpleton thing i've read on the internet today. you're quite obviously a apple sheep who enjoys trolling. only two types of people use iphone sheeple hipsters and the elderly (because its simple)
They should just stop selling their phones in Australia.
It's perfectly normal for a device to have its warranty voided if it's opened by an unauthorised service. And in Apple's case, anyone that is not Apple is unauthorised. Which is perfectly fine.
You can't pay for maintenance and service for your Ferrari? No problem, just get a cheap Ford and own what you can actually afford. Or fix your Ferrari in a general service shop and lose your warranty. As simple as that.
All manufacturers do this. If you, or any unauthorised party opens, services, or modifies a device, you can kiss your warranty bye bye.
And the bricking of devices where components were replaced by unauthorised parties is perfectly normal as well. This is a security feature to make sure devices are not tampered with. And also, authorities cannot just replace components and, say, move the flash memory from one motherboard to another and then read its contents. That's why Android phones cannot be secure, no matter what you throw at them.
Only 9 million? Why not 9 billions we all would be happy and satisfied because this company would get the only think it really deserves.
Untrained repair guy broke your phone and you want Apple to give you a new one. The age we live in.
Apple is such a shady degenerate of a company.
But their shit, get screwed needing help
Sheep won't learn - it's colder without fur - don't buy into ANY company treating you like this (same goes for Microsoft and LG, also Gameloft, EA, etc. etc.)
and the money goes to Australian consumers of course? or no
