Luxor, 20 Jun 2018That is why customer needs to understand what new android version really carries. To be brief ... moreYeah you are right. But Oreo was really important! It has project treble support, which means it leads to other software updates, and faster updates!

Wtf???? Are they serious??? No update??? I don't use a P9 but if it doesn't come to P9 it won't come to my Honor 8 too!!! Only one update??!! Huawei really messed up this time. Devices with Kirin 659 are getting the update meanwhile Kirin 950 and 955 can't handle it?? Tf?

your only choices for updates are iOS devices, pixels, nokias, most motos, all don't forget to mention all the upper-midrangers / flagship htcs and sonys. I actually think the original xperia z (c6602/3) had the longest support of all phones, even nexuses. from 4.1 -> 4.2 -> 4.3 -> 4.4 -> 5.1 almost three years of updates.

Maybe some people like Security and Efficiency better than openness.

People buy Macs to use dedicated apps like Final Cut Pro , Obviously Mac doesn't crash or freeze like Windows or has a thousand bugs like Android.

          So Its debatable Really.

First you buy an Apple phone. Then to overcome its limitations, you buy a Mac. Sheesh! Why so much effort for basic stuff.

And still the above solution does not overcome iOS' other shortcomings.

Software/version updates on Android are sooooo overrated its incredible. A massive majority of users will not be able to tell the difference between Marshmallow and Oreo. Functionality is not different at all. I can run 99% of apps and games on my 5 year old phone running Kitkat. It even looks the same.

In fact, a number android updates are detrimental to battery, usability and smoothness and actually result in a worse phone.

Stock software + security updates is the way to go.

Updates... that's the reason why i don't jump to Huawei, sure there is nice hardware on this brand but always there is a catch... and that catch are updates. The P9 is not that old, the S7/Edge are getting the Oreo update right now and even the iPhone 7 will get updates for more years. All those phones from 2016.

Other brands will always have issues with updates at some point. But I can tell you that these updates are nothing special. As long you phone has latest security updates, that's enough.

That is why customer needs to understand what new android version really carries. To be brief most new android version are actually build base on what type of hardware the current phone will have.

When fingerprint sensor, dual camera, rounded corner, new aspect ratio, notches and so on become a norm, Google integrate a native support for it in new android version like in the Oreo and android P. Old phone that dont even have this hardware dont really need the update. Releasing the update will only make your phone worse. There are hardware limitations that leads to malfunctions, freezes and battery drain.

At that point a year and a half old OnePlus 3 for example got 8.0 in November of 2017 while even Galaxy S8 had to wait until March 2018. They can be sometimes slow as 5T only got 8.0 in January 2018, two months after their previous flagship for some reason. 8.1 was really quick, though.

Your absolutely best bet though is Pixel lineup. These are the first phones that get updated but one that often updates are buggy, apparently more so given the amount of threads complaining about buggy updates on Pixels than other flagships. This could also be because Pixel owners are more vocal, hard to say.

Either get a Pixel, Android One device like Nokia or a near stock device like OnePlus.
