But Garmin has advantage in areas like Garmin maps, now music, customization of the workouts and views, etc.
Samsung, LG, Huami, Apple, etc, for now aren't competitors. Their sensors and measures are bad for a serious training and sport watch. Are more a daily and fashion smartwatches with common features.
Ehmm. This is really bad. $500+ smartwatch launched in India? Bad moves. On top of that, people barely know the brand Garmin.
Smart what? The smartwatch features in this watch are secondary. In any case compare it with the Vivoactive 3 that is around $130 cheaper, $384 and still a lot better for training that what Samsung, Apple, LG, etc offer, with a joke of sensors and battery life.
This watch like others from Garmin, Suunto, Polar... have a lot better sensors and algorithms. Calculating your VO2, lactate threshold, rest time, performance condition, customizable workouts, intervals, managing the gps precission to save battery but with algorithms calculate the trajectory using other sensors in conjuction, etc.

At the beginning it wasn't compatible with power devices but now is after be updated so you can now it for power based training. And this model even supporting several sports is not a multisport watch as you can't by default program a multisport train, only trains for a single sport in each activity. But Garmin have an interesting app shop, where you can find developed apps that improve their based models. With the upcoming CIQ 3.0 sdk developers will be able to even add Garmin maps to models like this one with enough memory to navigate with maps offline without phone needed even if is a model without that feature by default like the new Fenix 5 Plus variants.
Perhaps in the future generalist brands like Samsung could improve their health features to become training ones but for now those watches are more for fashion and feature as smartwach that something to consider for running, cycling, triathton, etc.
And i 'll probably bet that training watches will add sooner more smartwatch features that the smartwatches from LG, Samsung, etc, reach any serious training - health functionality. And yes, as Garmin in some features doesn't competition.... they are expensive. Sometimes even too much in my opinion but is what it is. If you want one choose the right one and profit the apps, a lot of them free to improve your model.
Will this watch even get a single buyer in India? Considering the fact that no one has ever heard of the company and other alternatives are of well known and reputed brands, the company might go in loss!
Geric.770, 22 Jun 2018Nah. I prefer Gear S3 Frontier.Yup. Even if Garmin watches can last weeks, Gear S3 just has more functions at half the price! I can even make calls through my S3, and respond to SMS.
A looot better than apple watch
