Such a great value phone with great specs and camera, but the design is way so ugly that almost no one would accept to buy as an iPhone X imposter. I think Iam not going to buy this ugly design until they come with nice design that neither copies Vivo and OPPO with a modular camera, curved AMOLED display from Samsung nor from Apple with a NOTCH!!!!

Maame Raggae, 25 Jun 2018The Mi8 series is quite hard to beat considering their prices and performanceHere in NZ a brand new Mi8 costs more than used near new Galaxy S9. So apparently S9 is a better choice for less money. Also S9 have an obvious advantage - pocketable size and ergonomics. Mi8 is just huge and it's a phablet actually.

Essential may have the first notch, but mis 8 copy the iphone notch, and camera housing. Even with mi mix 2s, they have to copy at least camera housing of iphone x.
but its true, they gave value for money phone

You will miss OIS, 2x optical zoom and brighter aperture in main lens of Mi Note 3, OTOH you get Dual PDAF, more saturated colors, more detailed shots, higher dynamic range and IMO better portrait shots (because it doesn't use the secondary camera to shot the main subject, so you don't have to move back far). In selfie side, 8 SE has all that Mi Note 3 has plus better overall sensor, higher megapixel, wider POV and LED flash light. Personally, I would wait for Mi Note 4 because missing OIS means bad low light shots most of the time (unless you carry gimbal or tripod all the time).
Although i still lament the fact xiaomi has caved into the notch trend, i do admire their success. Which is more than anyone can say about lg or sony or htc, who could perhaps benefit from the chinese company's strategy.

the first thing i did after getting this was comparing the camera with my s8 plus , i was astonished with result, man this is the first time any budget flagship has done one of the best cameras. absolutely recommended.

The essential ph1 was first with notch, and then Apple snd the rest followed, if you want facial scan with minimal bezels that's the sacrifice.
Camera won't be as good as Pixels, Samsung, iPhone , Huawei flagships but it cost HALF THE PRICE of those. Pay double to get the best.
