I have a small collection of micro sd cards with various stuff on them that iv collected over the years in different phones. Id never buy a phone without a micro sd card slot and look forward to these speeds and capacity's of these new sd/micro sd cards.
To all manufacturers thinking of dropping the micro sd card slot from future phones, Shame on you for trying to be Apple. it would be a Major step backwards as the sd technology keeps advancing use it to the phone and user advantage. While im on the subject this also goes for the 3.5mm headphone socket, keep it on there its very useful.

"To put things into perspective, the new SD Express cards put to shame most PC SSDs running on the SATA III interface."
Please don't misconstrue lane speed with memory (read) speed

Just like how not all Pcie SSD is capable of saturating the lane, it will be the same with SD. Heck, some of the cheaper ones can't even saturate the UHS standard.

LG Superfan, 28 Jun 2018And many smartphone are coming without sd card slotNot true.
Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG, they all have the SD card slot in their flagships.
Only apple, Google and the chinese brands don't have it.
Apple and Google do it so you can buy their very expensive models and also buy their cloud services, while the chinese brands do it because it's a lot cheaper for them. They sell featureles products if you ask me.

WoW an SD card With 128TB now to find a mobile phone which would support that.
I bet noone for a very long time. Anyway that card would cost more than apple X.
In 256 or 512GB versions of phone SD card is really useless .
Its just another expensive add-onsmaller cards have practicaly no use and the bigger ones cost too much for mostt people.
I remember old times when 1GB card cost much over 100 euros. And even 128MB card cost like 20.

This is why I only buy phones with SD card slot. If it's not present, I'm NOT interested. I don't care if it's iPhone, Pixel, replika brand with NOtch.
All those people whining about "low" speeds and heating bought cheap knockoff SD cards instead of REAL SD cards which are expensive. They thought they found a really good deal, when actually they got scammed. And now they live with the impression SD cards are "slow".
There are TONS of fake SD cards everywhere. You have to be careful where you buy them from.
Don't get greedy if you expect performance!
