Beware of updates from oneplus...Sadly I'm stuck with a phone now which shows full page ads anytime...when I'm connected to internet. It was fine before update but now I can't help it...😞😡

That can only means the phone have so much problems needing to be patch crazily every month. All the update notifs must be annoying. Oh, I hope Nokia doing well. Android One is very lovely.

As for me i depend on XDA and other sources for my update. At least i can get my updates as soon as its out. Thank God for TWRP

Well why not 3-4 years of OS update, and 4-5 years of security update, since they're flagship only?

While I applaud Oneplus for the effort I want to note that this phrase is factually incorrect for 3T model: "For two years after their launch OnePlus phones will get new Android versions, new features and bi-monthly security patches."
3T had been released on 15/11/2016 and didn't receive Android 8.1 and 99% likely won't receive Android 9.0 (scheduled for Q3 18) which will be released before 2 year period, ending in November 2018.
So in practice 3T received new Android version updates only for 1 year, and after that time only smaller updates.

the question that i'm wondering about is, will Treble extend software support periods for flagship-class devices? my iPad mini 2 is still receiving updates and that thing turns 5 this year

Samsung offers 4 years of security updates. Galaxy S6 just got June patch some days ago.

And they said that officially on the S9 unveiling. 3 years of monthly updates and a 4th year of quarterly updates
I would not take OnePlus' word for gold. They did so many times lied to their customers that no one should trust them.

TBH, previously, Oneplus has, multiple times, explicitly said something, and have turned their backs on their own statement, without providing ANY acknowledgement that they even did turn away from their own statement.
So, people please don't be fooled by their statements. They may do what they say, but there is a good chance that they won't, and you'll be left wondering how a brand can do something like this, and not even acknowledge or provide sufficient reason for why they did this.
