I would like a face scanner when you just rub the phone over your face.
Forgot to add it helps better ar overlays, possibly to add ar stickers to selfies even afyer being taken. Wonder if they plan do the similar to back camera, to boost AI recognition and AR functionality, be it for professional apps or for fun ar stuff... Can imagine that as next thing to be in every phone.
That makes me wonder, how accurate their maps and even navigation would become using such tech...mainly indoor maps.

i use my toe prints, No one will ever think to try that if they steal my phone. It is abit of a kerfuffle when i want to check my facebook, having to take my shoes and socks off everytime. but you can never be too carefull these days.
Usage of fingerprint sensor is more fast, secure, practical and without need to register your another biometrics. However with it moving from front to back on some devices, it comes with cost of not being able to unlock device that is put on some surface without moving it. Face ID unlock is great alternative, and even though it cannot replace it, its thanks to that being brought as front ID scanner that we got such fun things as animoji. Not counting possibilities of use like in game scenarios, where you could see mimics of another person in stead of stone like avatar face, be it fps or mmorpg. Wish it could be used in AR/VR headsets though, its the most futuristic tech, similar to navigation gestures, though in infancy.
Thank you Apple for iphonex!
Face unlock existing for years. But became trendy just after Apple impkemenrted it. Everyone forgot why they did that. Because under display scanner were not ready. Interesting, if Apple will do smell scanner - will everyone install fart detector too in phones?

The Mi 8 has the 3D scanner also.
Using Oneplus 3T with WaveUp installed, face unlock is awesome. When I take the phone off my pocket, lock screen appears and automatically unlocks when I hold it. No touch needed. But fingerprint is also very useful. So, both are needed ideally.
Why there isn't a single mention of Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition which has both a fingerprint scanner and 3D face recognition?
If face scanning worked in night, worked with screen locked without touching a button first and if it consume the same or less energy than finger print, then yes. But that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. In era where we have mediocre battery life on phone costing 1K and same old poly lion tech, I choose fingerprint scanner.
My phone's laying on the table, I don't even look at it, press my finger on the scanner and it's unlocked. Can't do that with face unlocking. So I voted a fingerprint scanner. No need for both, face unlock sucks.

This is a phone, not a bank vault. Who keeps any important information on phones any way? That's building a house foundation out of glass - brittle af.
Fingerprint unlock will always be more convenient than face unlock. No matter how advanced facial recognition system would become, users would still have to look at their phone for it to work
Fingerprint scanner still the most popular choice although not the safest. I have doubt with face unlock too. If it so secure it should had replaced thumbprint scanning system in offices and banking shouldnt it? Idk. Iris scanner still seem like the most secured on a phone albeit the slowest. I also know the fingerprint scanner on phone are not as advanced as a real dedicated fingerprint scanner. That is more expensive solution. It seems like users only bother whichever can unlock their phone the fastest but not safest.
Still didn't try face unlock. Been waiting for that feature on my Mate 10 Pro, but got tired of waiting and got back to IOS. Still I think that fingerprint is better and faster feature.
