Whata joke 3000 mAh battery to power two screens.
Samsung is crazy mad insane ridiculous company.
Person responsible for this should be gone from work.
Foldable maybe 10 inch screen powered by 3000 mAh foldable battery whata good joke.
People at Samsung really thinks customers are that stupid as they are? Hah no chance.

Foldable phones don't make sense. Foldable tablets or phone-tablet convertibles make more sense. Here's what I have in mind: a 3:2 aspect ratio tablet that can be folded to 1/3 its size along its length in 'Z' shaped (pamphlet style) tri-fold configuration like this one:
https://pt.depositphotos.com/30959321/stock-illustration-blank-trifold-paper-z-folded.html This way, the foldable tablet or phone-tablet convertible can be used just like an ordinary 2:1 (18:9) aspect ratio phone with the leftmost 1/3 of the screen displaying like a regular 2:1 (18:9)phone when folded and a 3:2 tablet when unfolded. Until that time comes, I see no reason to buy a 'foldable phone' that folds out like the clamshell dumb phones of the past.
Better wait when it's a mastered product and then it could cost less. Now it would be probably not that good and costs a gazillion.
Anonymous, 04 Jul 2018It is not the first generation. The foldable phone has been around in the past.True. Alright, it's going to be the first truly Foldable phone
Walter C. Dornez, 04 Jul 2018It'll be a first generation product that's for sure. Up to Samsung on how good it'll be It is not the first generation. The foldable phone has been around in the past.
F1982, 04 Jul 2018So we can have an option of foldable phones that are small 'pocket size' when being used casua... moreI bet 99% this phone won't be that small when filed and will certainly be thick and clunky... not gonna be pocketable...
EskeRahn, 04 Jul 2018Yes that will be the 'right' shape, to get a phone sized device, unfolding to a (small) table... moreAt least the front screen should be 16:9, and it would be kinda cool to see the fully extended screen be 21:9. Watching movies would be awesome in that thing

Mass production? More like waste production

F1982, 04 Jul 2018I assume when they say flexible battery, what they mean is a 2-part battery with flexible conn... moreThey talk about a V-shaped battery, so I guess you are right and it will have two components connected with eachother.
So a device that will have 7" screen will also have a 3000 mAh battery? It will have an amazing battery life for sure.
Sarcasm aside, first generation of foldable phones will be a fail. In terms of both battery and overall build quality. I wish we could see more prototypes before the foldable era begins.
radhiv1993, 04 Jul 2018why do people need foldable phone? reallyA foldable phone is great because it can give you a large screen while still being able to fit in a pocket.
sally, 04 Jul 2018oh really?

No brands are perfect.
unlike sony.. how about the xpl0ded xperia T3? and the self cra.cking glass during winter? and The overheat z3+? and the latest xz2 screen issue?

that shouldn't happend from the start, if those phones didn't burned they still us... moreOh please, Samsung isn't the only one having issues! iPhone's infamous bend gate, signal reception issues then recently Sony has problems with their LCD displays on xz1 and XZ2.
At least Samsung recalled their faulty note and refunded customers but other companies say 'deal with it'
I'm referring to gsmarena's article from few days ago.
No phone is perfect.
Walter C. Dornez, 04 Jul 2018Tbh, a flexible screen insinuates that the screen is strong enough to flex without breaking. I... moreFrom some info I found Samsung might be using the new flexible glass from Asahi Dragontrail. It is latest development this year. Asahi made the glass only 0.07mm thick. The glass has bending stress of 1200Mpa and curvature radius of 2.5mm. Which mean the device will not be perfectly closed when folded but more like a Surface Book hinge. That is really good.
Anonymous, 04 Jul 2018You might be right. But even then it's still probably overall more useful if anything that cou... moreIndeed.
And as the screen has to be flexible anyhow they MIGHT build the whole thing (or a subsequent version) on a somewhat flexible frame. This would be great for the durability, if only the individual small components (chips, camera, mic, speaker...) are rigid, but the rest including the battery can flex to some extent. Like a credit card with its rigid chip. Think how our wallets adapts to our pockets.
