As I read about these pseudo watches, I want to laugh.
The only thing that you can buy is the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus.

I think too that watches are the future. It is the most convenient item to carry around considering that we have abandoned classical watches so most of us could fill in the vacant place. Mobile phone could be in the form of watch connected with flexible screen. Forget about fragile mobiles. Just have to solve the battery, screen issues, etc.

If we can combine "touchscreen" and "hologram", then miniaturise it...
...then it will open a new Trillion Dollar Industry, where smartphones become obsolete and people will have two smartwatches that combine to play games in your palms, watch videos, and answer calls.

So from that perspective, smartwatches are not dead. However, the current trend seems like a gimmick that has waned past its fashion/trend. I think it needs a price cut and a decent new feature (week long battery life?) for it to be resuscitated.

Watches are on wrists maybe as long as tablets or computers that we bought are with us, longer than phones, yet its not category without future as to be fit is more and more meaningful, and such tech helps a lot in motivating(sometimes to the point of obsession).
Can imagine those who invest in this tech are winners, same as with tablet, action cameras and other health care products, best products are here to stay. Really miss sony in these categories.
Can imagine wearable cameras to be the next thing, considering what AI can do with just camera, not to mention all collected data can be used to get service better, be it navigation, recognition or both at once.
What I expect the most is more affordable AR wearables and some for gaming(be it mobile or for game consoles), well, that is more like wish.

Until they have battery life lasting at least a week, smartwatches will always be useless gimmicky devices.

I have low expectation in wearables. It is nice to have item. Essential to some but in majority most people dont feel the need to have them. Maybe newer younger generation would adopt this smartwatch as part of their lifestyle in the future. Just maybe.

"it’s still a 28-nanometer chip"

lol

Then it will be no competence to Apple or Samsung. Let see if Huawei make a proper chip instead of using the snapdragon again.
