Reminds me of Microsoft being required to give users an option to choose their default browser.

Generally, giving the user an option is good but let's not forget that certain OEMs bundle apps that replicate those ones shipped by Google in their Android OS. Maybe the law should extend to the manufacturers too.

DarK, 10 Jul 2018Wtf? They should rule this to Apple instead Google by forcing everyone to use safari browser..... moreAndroid is not open source, AOSP is. Also Android doesn't belong to Google. Get your facts right.

EU should force OEMs to give users option to uninstall any pre-loaded apps.

One of first think that I do when getting new phone is turning off Chrome and install Opera.

Just like with Desktop version, Chrome is fat browser that just eat all power and battery of device for breakfast.
Opera is literally what Chrome was few years ago, when it was still slim and fast browser + it have build in VPN, sync, adblock and it support chrome pluggins.

DarK, 10 Jul 2018Wtf? They should rule this to Apple instead Google by forcing everyone to use safari browser..... moreNo, the issue here is that they are forcing other to have chrome and the Google app installed to get the play store. Apple is not forcing anyone it's their device and they put safari. And it's not even dominant, like IE was.
So Google is using this strategy to gain Monopoly. The EU is saying you can't force companies to set and install something to sell something else. Which is fair. What Google is doing is anti compatative

Wtf? They should rule this to Apple instead Google by forcing everyone to use safari browser... Plus Android is open source and companies had choices either they bundle their own browser or just go on with Chrome browser ie. Samsung, HTC and the list go on... What a stupid rule.. Android is Google's OS and yet EU don't want them to add Google services to it? It's like asking to Hotdog manufacture that they don't use their own Hotdog in their own restaurants...

Abhi D, 10 Jul 2018Pathetic pathetic ruling! Google is a private organisation, they can do whatever they wish to ... moreExactly! What's the big deal about OEM's having to have Google apps preloaded? It's not like you can remove them and download whatever apps you like to use.

People do forget that Android is an open source project. since google overtook Android they tried their best to gain maximum from it hence the google services came into picture. But Law is always law one cannot overwrite it and all should obey the rules.

Abhi D, 10 Jul 2018Pathetic pathetic ruling! Google is a private organisation, they can do whatever they wish to ... moreNo, you do not understand what a monopoly is, Google is allowed to run a business in a country if the government approves its practices and offers ways to compete farely. What if a telephony company will buy all channels and no others will be able get into such telephony business then? What if a company buys all multimedia in a country or continent and publishes only what they want? The same with the search engines.

Pathetic pathetic ruling! Google is a private organisation, they can do whatever they wish to do with their Operating System. They aren't forcing anyone to use it, companies and consumers willingly choose it.
It's for Google to decide what pre conditions need to be met by companies and consumers to use their product.
Samsung forces their browser and dozens of unnecessary apps down the throat of users, apple is even worse with iOS, locking everything, not letting users choose default apps, yet EU is acting blind to that.
It's just that Google is an easy target for them to earn some quick cash for debt ridden European Union and additional burden of refugees.
EU is now infilterated with leftists who according to their communism won't let Capitalism survive. They are now asking illegally asking money the legal way from big corporations.

Google has become more aggressive in the last few years. It's time to make a leash on them. I also don't like the idea of forcing OEMs to add google suites. There were OEMs bloatware and now there is Google's bloatware.
