They almost had a year to do the RnD on their Flagship products... With S9 lineup they did variable Aperture gimmick... Now with S Pen... But then why not the Design???

That too by knowing the other brands are being way innovative with screen yo body ratio and by knowing by keeping the same design for S9 they didn't sold well...

Same with the Note9?

S1 and S2 looks the same, no? (Main design)
    S3, S4, and 5? Another group,
S6 and S7 are very similar
and same goes for 8, and 9. Why should they change the tradition???

Anonymous, 11 Jul 2018Samsung being the same will mean less sales from bragging people. But thats ok, so long as you... moreEh. No. For quite long time. The changes were always every two generations:
S1 and S2 look largely the same, It goes for S3,4,5 as well, 6,7 are the same, and so does 8,9. It goes the same for note too, 1,2 are the same largely by design, 3,4 are strikingly similar, Same goes for 5,7. And it WILL be for 8, and 9. People are aware samsung is going for a 2y change. Just hope the change in the sub change will be more dramatic than it actually will be.

More and more reasons people must wait for anniversary change of S10 may be a notch with android P and totally no bezel at bottom. This is surely a outrages bold decision by SAMSUNG against the value of they do have in market by keeping the design same for two consecutive flagship phones this year. Start your speculations do not waste money on Note 9, who knows how many month we might needed to wait to have a clear idea about how secure the heavy 3880 mAh battery will be.

sallblock, 11 Jul 2018i am not going to buy Note 9 unless samsung change the designI see nothing wrong with the current design. In fact I love it. It does not have the stupid notch and its sides are truly edge-less. Both the top and bottom bezels are symmetrical and small. With that, I'm capable of listening to my music, which is stored on the SD card, with a 3.5mm jack headphones while charging (wireless or cable). What else do you need? I would say my Note 8 has all the best features packed together in the market now.

                      S3 & S4 - same design
                      S6 & S7 - same design
                      S8 & S9 - same design
Same goes for the Note series...

Now i'm really excited for the S10 and Note10. I'm quite sure the S10 and Note10 will carry a different design language.

Btw. Samsung Q2 sales down by less than 1 percent compared to last year. Is that bad? :)

Most of the fan base just like Samsung phones and know how to use them. They also like the options you get with it. iPhones are more of a status symbol, at least here in the US. I've been looked down upon by my peers for having an S7 before

If anyone had been following Samsung for a while you would understand this is just Samsung playing it safe after the Note7 incident. Most of the focus since then are not on changes but increasing the quality of the predecessor phone. They taking a big step there on putting an even bigger battery; their main liability. As long as Note series doesnt make any issue it is all good for Samsung. We had seen the worst.

                              incremental upgrades, fewer sales.

this will be doomed if not advertised properly.

From the battery perspective, they increased that to cope with the new s-pen so it will be almost the same batterylife albeit better than the old one.

Samsung being the same will mean less sales from bragging people. But thats ok, so long as you satisfy the productive people.

                                1. You could release need new more portable dex dock stations / laptop dock for this device.

                                2. Release linux for the dex station.

                                3. Now with bluetooth stylus pen, allow it to be used like a bluetooth mouse, so in dex mode, the phone screen is the keyboard, the spen is the mouse.

most of samsung user-base cosists of people who dont use their phone more than for making a call, chatting in instant messenger, taking photos, instagram and light youtube session. They dont need the spec, they only want new shiny phone every year to show it off to their colleagues as status symbol. well, you can guess what happen when samsung dont change the design. they wont buy the new phones because they look exactly the same to the previous iteration. their Q2 2018 sales proves it.
