Daily or evenmore long-term usage would be different, depe... moreGeekbench is a cross-platform benchmark so if you let it do certain processor intensive tasks, it can do the job as fast as fast i7. Here's the catch, since A11 is a fanless chip and the area for heat dissipation is much smaller on a phone than on a laptop/desktop, it cannot sustain the peak performance unlike laptops with i7 processor. It's more like Core M where it can burst out the performance of higher end Core series but quickly throttles back to sub-Pentium speed after a few minutes. A10X can maintain the peak frequency much longer due to larger body.

i don't exactly know why people saying Apple A is a desktop grade SoC, evenmore saying it's on par with an i7... other than because of those Geekbench number.

They pissed off Graphics designers due to the lack of updates.
Gamers do not care.
Document / email users do not care.
The only remaining groups are the developers. Which they are pissing them off with weak keyboard, touchbar (for what??) we need function keys!!. We have to deal with other IDE Apple.. don't be selfish.
The 13 inches non touch bar version NOT UPDATED. Still on 7 gen chips.
This group have no CHOICE, if theres XCode on Windows or Linux.. Apple's macs will die.. HORRIBLY.

The new ones have almost the same sized battery and port selection of the 2017 models. They are for all intents and purposes, the same machine as the 2017, with chipset upgrade.
All in all, that means they cannot match the 2015 models for practicality... so they aren't as future-proof. These new models also have higher prices, which doesn't bode well when Apple is making them more disposable (and less "Pro").
Anyway you go enjoy your company, and dongle-life. Me, I will stick to comparing products based on its merits and not the logo... and I will spend MY money on the product that I objectively think is better.

Herr Zeba, 12 Jul 2018I have MacBook Pro mid 2008 and it still works (CD drive died and as card seldom allows write)... morei have a Presiario v3000 (2008). Core duo. 1GB RAM. No hardware issues. Yes it still runs Windows 7, also with no issues.
Durability and Longevity are relatives. It also depends with much factors, like how do you use it, taking care of it etc.

My hunch is that you're comparing completely different products - these thin and light ultrabooks, and a chunky but powerful (and power hungry) gaming machine.

But they still haven't fixed that fragile keyboard that fails to work if you get a single spec of dust under it. Better use these overpriced laptops inside a clean room with no dust because if you breathe on them wrongly, the keyboard might stop working.
