I had a 3G flip phone. My wife had a newer Samsung 4G smart phone. When Verizon sent me a text about 6 months ago telling me that my flip phone would no longer work, I reluctantly decided to upgrade. When I went to the Verizon store, the sales associate confirmed this. I told him that my old flip phone sent and received phone calls better than my wife's new phone at our cabin in Northern Pennsylvania. He looked dumbfounded and said that since we both have Verizon as our carrier, it shouldn't be any different. I explained that if you sat her phone next to mine at the cabin, mine would receive a phone call and hers sometimes wouldn't. Well, I ended up getting a new Kyocera smart phone and they sucked $500 from me. I HATE THIS PHONE. It is WORSE than her phone. I am taking it back and don't know how much I'm going to screwed if I want another one (it's been 3 months sine bought). I just want my trusty flip phone back. Can anyone tell me if they know of a new smartphone that can do what a phone actually is supposed to do? Get and send calls!

I live in Maine, where cell service in the norther part of the state is already non-existent. With most carriers you can't even get service - until a few years ago that included Verizon. 4G is a joke and 5G is non existent. So how do we benefit? Higher phone bills, same lousy service. I, for one, will NOT be transitioning, I will just stop carrying a cell phone.

Come on, we all knew this was coming.
We expect it to full phase out 3G/H+ reception once 4G-LTE has equal coverage (done) and a newer 5G connection is out (soon).

That doesn't mean 3G/H+ waves will disappear. No, they will get used for a different purpose like Digital Radio, TV, Advanced GPS, Military etc etc.

RejZoR, 17 Jul 2018I'm on 3G (H+ actually) because 4G reception is garbage, battery drain is huge and I don't eve... moreIn my case I do see that there's a drain on 4G Than 3G, but it's the normal scenario in my case:
                UL/DL in 4G (best seen): 92Mbps/42Mbps
                UL/DL in 3G (H+): 8/2.1
                So it is case dependant

Keep in mind...Verizon did advocate of ridding net neutrality. I'm very positive they're ready to charge a ton for data usage.

Anonymous, 17 Jul 2018F***K you Verizon for PUSHING NWO agenda! There is a reason why people still use 3G handsets. ... moreBecause GSM/2G is the fallback basis and has by far the best reception due to frequencies it uses. Similar to how 2.4GHz has far better reception than 5GHz WiFi.

Kiyasuriin, 17 Jul 2018Same fate.I'm on 3G (H+ actually) because 4G reception is garbage, battery drain is huge and I don't even get higher speeds. I'm using Xiaomi anyway which doesn't support certain 4G bands in Europe anyway so I'm fine with it. I actually get higher speeds with H+ and are within what I have for my data plan.

Pictures are better quality, videos are now recorded streaned in 4K HDR, websites uses these high resolution content. That's why 3G speed can't handle a simple page like ebay.com

Now as far as the idea of getting rid of 3G in general, tgat sounds stupid considering it's more reliable when you aren't near a 4G network. But who knows, maybe it cost more to maintain those sites than 2G so they'll probably upgrade those 3G sites.

F***K you Verizon for PUSHING NWO agenda! There is a reason why people still use 3G handsets. HUGE data is one of them compared to the limited data of LTE. And not ALL of America is covered by LTE, especially in those rural areas that ONLY support 3G. What's going to happen to the rural folks once 3G can no longer be used especially LTE support in rural areas are not very good?
