I think it is a 1280 x 720 display.
Reason why the app shown in the image shows 1184?
I don't know for sure but it looks like it is measuring the screen WITHOUT the pixels used to display the 3 buttons at the bottom which would make it a height of 96pixels.
Take a look at the "black" displayed in the background. The app background is "greyer" than the buttons background, I think it could be a hint.
Sounds reasonable? What do you think?

I wish this leaked photo isnt true. I would be disappointed if it is. 1184x720 sounds strange, it's not a real HD actually. you can have a resolution of 800x720, right it's a 720p res but not HD. perhaps I'll just wait for the next generation of Galaxy S.

AnonD-24714, 04 Oct 2011Could it be that 96 pixels are reserved for the on-screen buttons? 1184+96=1280 Yes that's a good point. good job!!

I wonder nobody commented on the x/ydpi numbers. If I do the calculations, it should have dimensions of 3.54x1.97 inch (thats exactly 9x5 cm), that makes a 4.05 inch diagonal.

AnonD-5666, 04 Oct 2011OK -- LET ME CLEAR THE CONFUSION... This is NOT pure 720p screen. It's 1184x720. A HD scree... moreThe app is most likely measuring active app area or something.

In reality NOBODY manufactures 1184pixel-tall screens. It's either 960 or 1024 or 1280 or. The height should be a multiple of 32 afaik. the width follows a slightly different rule, however.

The calculation probably doesn't take the soft keys bar into account, which makes all DPI calculation correct. 1/12 space of a screen for the bar sounds perfectly legit to me. We'll find out more next week for sure! (Unless Anonymous leaks more)

OK -- LET ME CLEAR THE CONFUSION...

This is NOT pure 720p screen. It's 1184x720. A HD screen would be 1280x720.

                          This 1184x720 gives a PPI of 322.

                          [(720^2 + 1184^2)^1/2]/4.3 = 322 (approx)

                              That's 1184 x 720. So the aspect ratio wouldnt be 16:9?..

Why 4.3"!? What happend to the 4.65"!?
In my opinion the smaller screen is really a bummer..

It looks exactly like nexus s.
There is way too much bezel at the bottom is there is no buttons. I never liked samsung design but this is bad. I would've liked it to look like at&t g2. Man what a shame
