4" screen size, larger battery, restyled housing and 1.2 dual core processor is something that might get out as Iphone 5 rather sooner than later. It's about share holders that are pissed off right now.
People rush and buy Apple shares right now because they will go real high when the 5 is out.

my mates are planning to upgrade from iphone 4 to its next generation, but after knowing the news, they are disappointed and decided to stick to their iphone 4, some of them plan to upgrade to samsung's next flagship.

Despite what Apple haters say, the iPhone 4S WILL be a success. Why? Well for starters people stuck on 3GS and older models will find this as an excellent upgrade to go into (I have a 3GS, compare the specs if you dont believe me).
Secondly, the 4S has powerful specs - I mean the 8MP camera is possibly the best phone camera according to reports, the Retina Display already is the best display, the 1080p HD recording will no doubt be superior, as the iPhone 4's 720p is class as it is. Add to that an A5 dual processor, we're talking about a proper fast phone. Anyone who uses an iPhone knows how smooth it is, this will just make it smooth and fast!!!!
Last but no least, the looks. Yeah ok they aint got a bigger screen and yeah the design is still the same, but lets be honest - the iPhone 4 and 4S is probably the best looking phone out there. As the reports say, better than its competition's cheap plastic!!!!!
So slate the 4S all you want, the fact of the matter is: The iPhone 4S will be one of the best phones out there, if the iPhone 4 is up there with the current competetion then the 4S is talking it to another level.

I never had any smart phone before and since I have just graduated and had a job I'de probably buy iPhone 4S. Im pretty excited about this. in the first place were just buying the name and all their junks anyway.

First of all, iPhone 4 isn't old. It is very popular around the world and as you said has unique design. So it would be a mistake to drop it and move to something new. The way things are now, almost everyone should be happy: iPhone 4 owners because their expensive phone is not discontinued (at least in the terms of design), new buyers because they can purchase device with excellent design, but now stuffed with even more powerful hardware. It would be unfair to current iPhone owners to make their device outdated just after one year and 4 months after release.

When US people are enjoying 4G LTE we in India are crying with 2G speeds (we will will be happy if it was working atleast). Vodafone Speed: 25-40 Kbps on 2G and Aircel 16-100 Kbps (200Kbps theoretical). 3G networks have coverage for less than 10% of India.

the problem with this phone is mentioned in the last line of the post. it looks the same as the iphone4 and one would have to explicitly tell that yours is a iphone4S. thats not cool, not one bit.

Really hoping for something far more better than this. I just hope this is the CHEAPER version of the iPhone 5 because if it isn't, they'll get butt kicked cause the specs aren't even close to the sensation of the O2X. But great camera improvement by the way.

This is what I call a Boomerang effect!!!
All this time, Apples policy to keep the iPhone as the Tutankhamun secret, made ppl have big expectations of the new device. When they actually presented iPhone 4s, with EXACTLY the same design as the 4 version (NOT EVEN A SLIGHTLY BIGGER SCREEN) and a GPU 7x faster than the previous one (what are you going to do with it on 3.5"?!?), everybody was dissapointed!
FCOL Apple, that was it? Really? If I was Google, I would send invitations to Apple Dev Team for the Nexus Prime presentation, just to get an idea what "moving forward" actually means! Jee!!

I'm an iPhone user and a bit disappointed because the expectation on the iPhone 5. Looking on the other side, it's still on par in terms of hardware specification (except for the screen size) with the latest released phones and will certainly up ahead in terms of performance because of better software optimization. Will wait for GSM arena how it compares with the latest Samsung GS2 or the Sony.

I think it would have been better if Apple had enhanced battery life as most of the users are complaining from this issue .
I get disappointed because I expected that Apple would release a more impressive iPhone edition than iPhone 4S .

God this is the bigest fail of the year...
Because they made the top and bottom parts bigger, the screen looks like a wrist watch now....
And the specs? really A5? after half an year they can barely catch up to Galaxy S2? This is their new and innovative device? OOOH i forgot they added a useless "secretary voice" app...yea defently best device out there...

Not even Siri is very impressive at all, my S2 have Vlingo that do almost exactly the same as Siri, "Voice Talk on S2 will enable users to do social updates, messaging, email, handsfree communication via InCar, voice dialing and search and more. They will also be able to initiate commands simply by double-tapping the home screen button, making it easier than ever to get things done while on the go."
iPhone 4s actually have nothing "new" at all!

I am really disappointed with Apple... Had expected much better but only a dual core and better camera is what you get for more than a year after iPhone4??? I am going to go for S2 HD LTE or the Nexus Prime now...
