The majority of consumers prefer that vivid look over accuracy. This is why Samsung ships it with the vivid color profile. You can change it to standard I believe. My phone has super accurate colors on standard but often I put it in Vivid.
Again most consumers who pay that much for a phone are taking care of it and unlikely to get it in water. Those who do will probably not end up with it in a pool but maybe get it slightly wet by spilling a drink on it. These things are so uncommon in the real world that it's just another spec people can fight over for why their phone is better.
In the end the most important aspect for most people is the aesthetics and that's an individual taste. Samsung just happens to catch the eyes of more individuals. The screen is a big factor too since you are looking at it all day. And you just want it to be able to run your apps.
All the other stuff is just marketing. Think about all the crazy camera spec wars. You take pics and enjoy your pics and think they look good. The only time you really notice one is better than the other is if you blow them up side by side and inspect. The majority of people just don't care. They were happy taking pics with their horrible handheld cameras 10 years ago. The majority of people just want memories and observe these pictures on facebook/instagram and usually only their phone. It makes no difference which flagship they took it with because most of these phones take great pics. It's all a marketing war created to give people reason to buy new phones all the time. Except we've gotten to a point where phone sales are starting to plateau. Hence why this new foldable thing is the next craze.

This is good to see but never forget that best phone in terms of technology is IphoneX that no phone yet reaches its soecification but samaung s9+ has just brighter video but not good hardware than X. If we put real comparison between two. IphoneX can never beaten.
