phonee, 23 Jul 2018I have used iphone 8 plus, Note 8, S9+ and P20 (my recent phone)...to say the least...Kirin 97... moreThis time around however, the 980 at least matches the performance of the 845. The in house GPU is also made to run with the Kirin 980, fixing the problems that the Kirin 970 posed before

A77 is surely a typo, since the late 2018-early 2019 design for ARM is A76. It has just been announced, so most likely HiSilicon still didn't get enough time to integrate it; this SoC is most likely based on the A75 design. As on the past years, HiSilicon has terrible timing; it will compare favourably to current processors, but will be a generation behind for most of next year compared to SD855 and Exynos whatever.

Shanti Dope, 23 Jul 2018Forget the benchmarks. Galaxy S9 against the iPhone 6s at processing videos, and you guessed ... moreYeah, I disagree with a lot you just said. I owned an iPhone 6 for about a year and a half, and it doesn't run as well as a Galaxy Note8. And this is coming from someone who dislikes Samsung, a lot. (Only thing good about Samsungs is their design imo, the S9+ is the best looking phone out there right now.)

Their flagships with 6GB of RAM run just fine and a lot better than the old iPhone 6. Sure, Apple has great software support for their devices, but unlike Android updates, a newer iOS version actually hinders performance instead of improving it. So much so even, that Apple said themselves that this won't be the case with iOS 12.

The point you make about heavier games opening way faster on iPhones is also just not true. There are more than enough videos on YouTube that compare the iPhone X with let's say a Sony Xperia XZ2 or a Oneplus 6 or other flagships, and they're pretty goddamn even, despite the A11 Bionic being miles ahead of the SD845.

Maybe 10 or 20 mins. on the other hand, PC can run at their peak speed for longer periods. Because you know apart from processor's speed or core count, TDP, and cooling are also important above that Pentium is a tech from the 90s. But higher-end Pentiums are still faster. :)

So maybe single core performance matters but in 2018, multi-core performance is as important as single-core. Though I personally hate this BIG.little combination of processor's cores, none of them is true octa-core. Only 4 cores run simultaneously.
And when we all talk about how optimized iPhone is, then you must know that running the latest OS on a 2 years old iPhone is a nightmare. TRY it yourself. :)

A77? Hmmm... Maybe Kirin 980 will really be made from Arm A77, but it is definitely not in the 2018. By the time they make it, Qualcomm and Exynos will already use a better chipset than Kirin 980. But Kirin 710 looks very promising. Can't wait to knowing what GPU they will put on that.
