GIVE THIS MAN A MEDAL...
Zenodroid, 24 Jul 2018You get smoother ui, longer battery life and less power consumption in oreo. Well thanx for your reply Zen, I will think about it :-)
So, where all the people claiming they keep buying phone every year? You all still keeping old phones? That is why the list is full of old android version. Throw your old phone away the list will change immediately. Btw, as of now all the new phone on sales in 2018 are either Nougat(mostly device from January or February) or Oreo only. There is no effing way the old android version can increase in percentage. It will keep going down.

I'm from Europe and if you try to root your phone and you hard brick it, the warranty is voided (if the service center has the ability to determine this was the course of the malfunction).
I know because it happened to me. But I got lucky. The phone was so dead they couldn't determine the cause :)
So no, your statement is not true.
I still root my phones from day 1 no matter what.
Zenodroid, 24 Jul 2018Have you tried oreo on your phone? I guess not. To be honest you are right, And by the way I am very open minded.
But when I see its feature list and see my amazing battery life on Nougat I feel like i have no need for it!

I'm one of the 2.0% users running Oreo 8.1 and it's not because I have trusted and waited for my OEM to provide updates. But because there are those that care for phones that have been abandoned by OEMs after a short period of time.
It is all thanks to Official LineageOS. They provide better and more stable software for your phone than the actual enslaved developers which work for the OEMs. the lack of knowledge from some of those OEM developer's is frightening.
So I suggest. If you are one of the lucky ones. That are supported by LineageOS. Abandon the software which your OEM provides you with! Unshackle your phone from your OEM chains! And switch to Official LineageOS!
Anonymous, 24 Jul 2018Does this includes custom ROMs users?yes it does! anything that uses AOSP as its base which literally every custom ROM does which requires google play to be installed to work properly. is accounted in the stats.
the reporting is done through the google play service's framework.
Anonymous, 24 Jul 2018Does this includes custom ROMs users?I'm not sure rooted phones or phones with custom ROMs are included in the list.
My phone is rooted, but in play store, under settings it says device uncertified.

Only update MIUI
Oreo 8.1 user here. running latest 8.1 with July security updates with treble support. On an device from December 2016. LineageOS makes it possible and do a better job than most OEM's out there!
Anonymous, 24 Jul 2018Not entirely true.. Stock android can't be installed just like that on ALL phones.
What tak... moreactually it can, every oreo android device must pass CTS test, in which one of it was running a somewhat AOSP-like GSI.
the problem with drivers are it's closed source. so devs are working with binary blobs talen from stock ROMs that have been tweaked accordingly. reverting it would be hard without source.

What takes most time, is normally the parts you can't see. Drivers for the various components. IMO, the surface UI, and "crap" is the fastest and easiest step.
Even XDA, most of them use existing similar device drivers and hope for the best. Rarely you see people able to dive further down.
Just to push those who think kitkat is enough.
