vrvly, 25 Jul 2018Its great however for low light, add second tele and monochrome and it will make wonders...not really being a programmer. just write a codes into it that code must be natural not an over sharpen images that makes it like a painting output and add a good sensor. and good natural low light images will be there. happy codding everyone.

If it's true, Sony is waking up this year!
First with the XZ2 Premium, then with this XZ3. A combination of this IMX586 and AUBE would be stellar.
I will have a hard time choosing between the XZ2P and this phone if these leaks are true, as both of them are very appealing.

48MP, what a joke. 99% of the time, the ONLY real good having that many pixels, is for cropping & zooming. You won't lose as much detail with that many pixels, as say a 12mp sensor. But, the tradeoff is usually having that many sensors in such a TINY sensor array, introduces crosstalk, and increases the signal to noise ratio, leading to the "silver spots" problem, which software will attempt to block out, which reduces the quality of the image. An 8-10mp sensor, properly configured, would produce a good 11x17 (A3) photo print. Instead of increasing the number of sensors, how about increasing the SIZE of EACH sensor, to increase it's light gathering properties.

Shanti Dope, 25 Jul 2018Anything at 40MP mark is enough Sony just went overboard to full 48MP for better downscalingSurely you want sharp 12mp huawei like HDR in low light. This is best you can wish for, that is if premium won't perform better, but more likely not(even pre production samples weren't).

Shanti Dope, 25 Jul 2018Lens are fine with Xperias. At least since the XZ Premium and even before that phone. Softwar... moref/2.0 apperture is below mid-range. So XZ2 were very noisy. Software has been a problem for Sony since long time. I don't think anything will change with XZ3.

And design of mid-cost Chinese phones won't help either.

Anonymous, 25 Jul 2018Impossible to avoid corner softness using 25mm lenses. Even 30mm has it.. What if I tell you that Sony did it with their XZ Premium of last year??

F1rstman, 25 Jul 2018I remember a couple of years ago Sony started with the high megepixel race. Their camera was a... moreOIS is bad for moving subjects. And it's not being implemented by Sony since there's no way to physically disable it on a smartphone.
Come to think of it, if it's just purely OIS alone that can make the difference, then why does iPhones still use 1/4s shutter time during night time shootouts?? And yes, they can still be blurry at times.

Anonymous, 25 Jul 2018The problem was never in the sensors but actually in the lens and software Lens are fine with Xperias. At least since the XZ Premium and even before that phone.
Software isn't to be fully blamed, rather Sony's decision of using it for a very long time and only improving it at the time that others have surpassed them by a long mile already.

Mama, 25 Jul 2018But the 48MP don't have build in DRAM. How about the super slo mo? Obviously they would include a DRAM. No way they're going back, unless they found a new and maybe better way of doing super slow motion videos without the need of a DRAM.
Sony basically just highlights the new key features of the new sensor, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the things that weren't mentioned aren't included already.

If Sony can pull of top end pics which don't look like naff painting like the p20 pro.. due to it over processing.
Then they should be back in the mobile race with the new design as well wouldn't have minded a 2k screen but I'm assuming it's a 1080p oled from samsung.

My question is how much is this gonna cost compared to the rest. Also will they consider bringing back the headphone jack.. since they still have it on the XA phones.. will Defoe create some news/ publisatly if they brought it back

This is what happens when commerce kills engineering.
