Late 2018 could be anywhere around October to December for Huawei. You need to think of shipping and delivery period too. That foldable phone will come late to users hand. 2019 new chipset will appear just 2 to 3 months later. You the one who dont know anything. -_-

If it folds and they build in a rubber bumper around the inside edge, it might provide a seal against that sand getting at the folding screen.

Any phone you buy at second half of this year will immediately not futureproof within 6 months. 2020 seems like a good year to actually buy a well polished concept. Now, everything felt like a prototype that can be further improved. We in the transition of technology 'year'. I want to see more in bezel less concept like Oppo and Vivo too. Also waiting to see the future of notched phone. Hope it be gone.

Competition is always good for the end users. As others mentioned early, being first doesn't mean it is good. Please try make it more usable day to day basis.

At the point of release it might very well be the most powerful CPU in any android device.
And if Samsung release their product in the first months of 2018, it isn't given that they have a more powerful chipset to put in their device yet.
But for a good foldable phone, one should probably wait 2 years or so, so they have time to perfect the concept.

guyz dont go with the rumors.Samsung doing r&d in foldable screen technology i gues 2 years ago still they dont release it...there are many prototypes here we seen in youtubes but for retail it still doesnt come ...we are hoping to see it in 2019 maybe...and from nowhere in news huawei going to realease first its like RKO from nowhere.stop guyz 1st is doesnot mean good..OPPO FIND X IS FIRST FOR ADOPTING SO MANY FEATURES BUT IN LONGETIVITY JERRY RIGS IT AND SEND IT TO HELL..this is a new technology right so the cost of ph may be more than 1000usd ...at this price point we also want longetivity right.....AND IF ITS READY FOR LAUNCHING THEN MAY BE Q3 OF 2019.THANKING YOU...PLEASE REPLY IF YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE TO MY COMMENT.

What worries me, though, is longevity. I wouldn't buy any foldable phone without them tried for at least 18 months.

Huawei seem like rushing this to be first. But little did they know it will come with old chipset and hardware if it release late 2018. Samsung version will come with latest chipsets from 2019. People will prefer the latter than the former. No one want to be outdated. The last one to release it is actually the winner.

Zoz, 27 Jul 2018Very good question. What the designs shown show, I can't figure out one single use case for it.Imagine the device shown are more than 7" diagonal. It is huge. Fold it and it will be more pocketable.
