I updated and used it a few days. There are no issues with buttons (a bit harder to press than normal buttons - which is an advantage for me) and Edge Sense (which is amazing).

However from journalism standpoint, GSM Arena should just study the changes and then report the results.
Btw, Alex from AC has updated his review.

If HTC uses cheap Titanium like Essential PH-1 (and add plastic shock absorbers between the metal and glass), it'll be harder but the sensors will never work.
PapaRafe, 01 Aug 2018HTC should make return to m7-9 design, but modernized them like Pixel.

Otherwise, I do agree with what you said.

HTC should make return to m7-9 design, but modernized them like Pixel.
Make the phone with some bezel but filled with stereo speakers.
Don't care it it metal or glass, as long as it has distinc HTC characteristic.
Throw away stereo speakers for stup1d squeeze jus make HTC situation worsen!
After 8 straight years with HTC, I moved on to another Taiwanese, Asus Zenfone 5
How does this make the phone any better when the public perception is already very very bad. All the current users probably thinking about switching to other brand as soon as possible. This company cant be help anymore. This update is like just a temporary solution before buying another phone.

Even if GSM update their opinion I'm guessing most other sites won't bother. And it's not like they're investing in a bold marketing campaign to counter all the bad press
awesome :) I love my U12+ (no real complaints, even about the buttons), and this will only make it better!

They can't win in either scenario
Now the question is, are you guys going to update your review of U12+ to reflect the changes brought by this update?
Please notify us all. TIA.
I'm not saying this to be that guy, but they should move back to metal. It was their thing back in the day. They really need to get Boomsound on the front again at the very least
Really weak build quality, especially the buttons and glass back. Makes me wonder why HTC built their flagships with such weak materials.
The fact that it's so easy to literally remove the buttons off the phone itself makes me question the change to no buttons
