And that's how you can see the real values behind Alphabet's board of directors. Freedom and democracy are not 'sensitive topics'. This is not a political forum (or is it ? since the news is published here)... but it's sad to see google working in that direction.

I've never been a google's fan. I think that the best sarcasm about Google is found GTA where the search page says Life Invader...

Everything is ok in the name of marketing and profits.

Sad.

With all the filtering and algorithms already in place, will this truly be different from regular google?

Removing p0rn and human rights sites is far less of a crime than reducing the whole wide net into a personalised bubble, custom tailored to maximise profit and further one's values and beliefs by filtering found content to be more to users liking.

Democracy, socialism, communism, fascism etc.. are being thrown around without context.

For example, democracy in the US is corporate democracy where politicians bend to the will of large corporations. The US also practises socialism through infrastructure projects like roads building, sewage system etc... The most recent one is farm subsidies. 99% of airports in the US are run by the government for the benefit of the people, this is socialism.

Censorship has no relation to democracy or socialism.
It's the face of autocratic regime. If, after every 4 years, the majority voted for an autocratic party then it's still a democracy. A good example of that is Turkey.

China may do some censorship but at least its not like the US... where the people think they are free and have freedom of speech etc but they dont realise that the media and everyone is brainwashing them even more than what China is ever doing lmao.

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2018First of all Trump is anti-China. Second China is communist not fascist. It has been like that... moreChina is self-proclaimed communist/"socialist with Chinese characteristics", in practice the CCP is not communist at all and less socialist than developed EU countries like France. They're rather close to fascist, not to say that didn't help the economy take off. They have a unique way of exploiting the surplus value of workers and directing it efficiently.

No censorship here, probably for years to come as they are too incompetent to even understand how the internet works.

But Google developing something like this is worrying, as it will be at the fingertips of every government. Changing to other search engines is like changing from windows to.... (no real alternative for the masses).
This is not good news at all.

Google has been trying to enter China officially since forever for other reasons than to provide search results for the public, VPNs exist you know!

Besides, every country has a type of censorship. I don't know any exceptions (please fill me in).

And as far as I'm concerned, no country has all the people rooting for their regime, there are always unhappy people whether it's the US, EU.. etc. So instead of saying Democracy is better than Communism, maybe let the Chinese handle themselves?

If they wanted to change the regime, I don't know a power in the world that could stop them.

Maybe the censorship is not so bad at all. Here in Europe we have huge problem with fake news and although the medias are not censored, there is strong autcensore in direction of politcorrectness and lot of similar bulshit. In US I believe is much worse. The result is similar to what will be in China, but people here believe their rights are protected.

Seems like everyone with a mobile is genious in the comment section.

                                      Google is just doing business.

You have to be more concerned about Chinese regime to supress human rights and democracy.
