Nope, phone cases are unnecessary, just like shoes are unnecessary for your feet. Just don't start complaining when you step on horse s@#t or when you step on a nail and puncture your foot.

You're missing the main reason to get a case: they protect my phone, and ensure
1- it doesn't get broken when I need it (and I don't need to buy a replacement in a hurry)
2- my phone remains "as-new" and can be sold at a higher price, or given away w/o being insulting.
With the current "dumb trend" of front and back glass phones (w/o wireless charging, which is also a stupid gimmick anyway) costing hundreds to more than $1000, a case is pretty much necessary. No matter what you say, glass is glass and no matter how you try to keep it safe, it'll crack and shatter if you drop if at the right height. Metal will dent. That's where cases come in. No one wants or like a phone with a cracked screen or back glass or dented frame. A good protective case with drop protection and lay-on table lip is pretty much an absolute necessity nowadays.
Besides, cases help keep your phone in pretty much as close to pristine condition, increasing it's resale value. Obviously, no dumb person is gonna buy a second hand phone even if it's in good working condition if the screen or back glass is cracked or shattered, and the frathas plenty of dents. You're gonna have to sell your cracked phone at rock bottom price.
Just drop those beautiful glass back phones repeatedly on the pavement to get the trendy Spiderman edition case.
Way better than covering it with an ugly case.
I just don't understand why there is a cutout around the logo from certain brands?!
If you have the money and it's a fashion thing for you why not
I have my phone so I can use it's stuff and I can't afford another if it breaks. I already slide my s8 on the floor and it has SUPER deep scratched that you can feel with your finger, phones thesedays are so freaking fragile
Sooooo, why the fk you would by a phone for it's design if you put after a case?
I thought the same as Yordan, but after breaking 3-4 phones, now I put my handsets in case. Still I want to use it without one but my head doesn't allow me.
If they are build correctly, yes! Only stupid people buy phones for 500$ + and don't protect it. And a pro cover protects the back, sides, top, bottom and screen. Without have an annoying flip to hang and block the camera. Plastic is useless too, because that's just a hard surface against a hard surface. Silicon cover are the best solution, since it's the cover that absorb best, without Damaging the phone.
Shanti Dope, 05 Aug 2018The thing is, can your so-called "discipline" help to fix your phone once accident happens??
... moreYou are like my father though.
Even if he had a Huawei P10, he doesn't like using cases in his whole entire life.
There will always be a need for phone cases until indestructible materials are used to build phones .
The main reason people buy cases is to protect there expensive flagship device.
The other main reason is so people can make there device different from other peoples phones. Until you can customise at purchase your phone ( Which would cause untold delays or hold ups in distribution) cases will always be needed. Unless you go down the Vertu route .
Imperator Neubaticus, 05 Aug 2018Discipline is necessary, not cases. If i can use my note8 for 10 months without dropping it or... moreThe thing is, can your so-called "discipline" help to fix your phone once accident happens??
You may have been lucky for not having to drop your phone in 10 months, but not all people can be as careful as you are.
There will always be a time that carefulness would not save such precious things in life. Even professional and "disciplined" drivers still get involved in car accidents in the road.
Besides, being careful doesn't guarantee you anything. Having a protective case means the phone is ready to take absolutely any accidents whenever it happens, be it a careful person is handling it or not.
And you're not missing out that much into getting a phone case anyway.
To each his own, I don't like using cases, but it has always been necessary especially for such phones this expensive.
as devices are getting fragile by using glass body and edged screens, and fortune to fix the crack on it. its better to use cases rather than showing off, unless you have endless money then its another story.
We put on cases for many reason. As for me I put it on for protection and differentiate my phone from other peoples phone that use the same model as mine. Indeed it hide the design intended by manufacturer. Lets just see it the way we add salt and pepper to our food and not eating it the way the chef had made it. Afterall, we all have different personality and taste.
I dont get the argument of pay more for built quality when all still use protection cases on them for protection. Does not matter what phone you have inside of the cover sandwich.
Glass back phone is indeed slippery but a simple ring holder is enough to give grip without using case. I never used phone cases anyway since pre smartphone era.
Cases are for ugly looking phones to make them look nicer.
We should appreciate the time and effort spend by phone designers, such as for Johnny Ive and etc., by not putting cases over their work result.
I have a Sony Z3+, no case.
After few drops only the frame is damaged.
Rear glass is fine...
Lucky me !!!
