The Note 4 was pretty much the best Note ever. MicroSD card slot? Check. IR blaster? Check. Removable battery? Check. Hardware home button? Check. Flat screen? Check.
The 5 onwards all lack the IR blaster and the removable battery. Thankfully, Samsung added the micro SD card slot back from the 7 onwards, but it was missing in the 5. The 7 onwards had curved screens. The 8 onwards lacked hardware home buttons. Sure, the CPU and graphics get ever faster, and arguably Android itself gets ever more refined, but the things that set the Note apart as the pinnacle of power user phones gets ever less.
I can't see me replacing it any time soon, out of choice anyway.

I've tried searching for the firmware code and it looks like it's a download available for SM-N910F Note 4 units, which is a Note that runs Snapdragon and not an Exynos chipset.

I will not download or install this update until we get some good tests from GSM Arena and users about how it impacts on the Note4.
I just do not trust Samsung any more and as some have already suggested, the update could brick or slow down the phone to force users to buy a new phone.
Hoping for more info & experiences in the comments section, and a test if possible, Thanks.

If thats your wishes I would say look on ebay carefully. And depending on your country and carrier.
In the US i would say pick up a verizon device for use on any carrier except sprint. 80 to 100 will get you a good note4.
130 can grab a decent verzion note 5 64gb right now but with mild screen burn.

No... moreActually considering you can get a Note 4 online for about $80-$100 dollars ths Note 4 is not only worth getting over the N0ote 3 but its litterally the best phone you can buy for that money. No better value.
And with the prices being so similar from the Note 2 through 4 id personally pick the note 2 over the 3 if I needed to save a bit. nicer speaker and exynos chip.
But the805 vs 800 and qhd brighter display, and 16mp ois camera made the note 4 decent over the 3.
And even without root and with some bloat....like all others....the note 4 was the best of 2014.
And the s6 and note 5 were leading devices with great tech. but yes due to removal of removable battery and sd slot were still a let down to many.

[deleted post]It is good and does edge out iphone. But it definitely doesnt beat all in low light like all the hardcore fans claim. And absolutely is not best all around or in day like fans claims.
And as a phone its nice and shows that in some ways sony might be attempting to wake from their endless slumber....
But sadly has no standout features except 4k and better vibrating motor....
Neither even come close to justifying 1K. Its severely and excessively over priced.
It in fact dethroned the Pixel 2xl for being the most over priced Android phone.

Note 4 - only an upgrade if you get the Exynos 5433 version, custom roms with 5.1 and r00t to offer a device that's better than the Apple iPhone 6 Plus. You could call it the Phone of the Year 2014, especially since the disappointment that was the Nexus 6, Galaxy S6/Note5, and QSD 810 fiasco which occurred throughout 2015.

I've been wanting to try the note line since the Note 3, but I haven't been able to save much. This went until the Note 7 was released and then the tall aspect introduced.
I don't mind a normal phone looking like that, but a device for writing should look similar to a notepad, not a remote control :/
My current budget is ~$500 which would get me a note (even last year's) back in the days T^T
