lolwut, 14 Oct 2011So you'd prefer gimmicky animations and 3d effects? What kind of capabilities will that bring ... moreSo you'd rather every phone be uniform in appearance, take LG/Samsung, different companies but both based in the same country. Aside from the name of the brand, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference of the OS, now if you look at Sense 3.5 from HTC and Mango 7.5, that's how you integrate live information and updates rather than the blocky grid icons we are so accustomed to seeing on many Android devices. OS'es are the soul and feel of the usability of the interface, making it more appealing in how in interacts with the consumer is everything, it's not the few who want this change, companies are putting a lot of time to give the OS of choice a more polished look fit for the future. Eventually, touchwiz will have to die and adapt to a more 3D interface that is practical in the face of competitors who are ever changing and accelerating the growth of the industry, whomever is striving to the top will want to give the interface a top look as well as the phone's capability.

It's got a slightly faster processor in exchange for poorer battery life and significantly worse gaming experience (the PVR540 is still competing with tegra and beating mali, the adreno220 is a failure). Everything else seems to have remained the same. The exhibit (first) was a great little phone you could grab for $299 outright..why ruin that!?!

What kind of capabilities will that bring that I don't have already? Oh, that's right, we don't care about actual capabilities, as long as we can impress our simpleton neighbor with a new toy. That's all the typical consumer wants these days - a friggin toy.

Instead what we are seeing is just a rehashed Nokia N95/N97/Iphone 2007 with the interface barely changed. I'm sorry, but adding these gargantuan specs means sod all unless you change the user experience from bland icons to something more up to date and fit for the future. Revolutionary is the term, right now every interface is barely evolutionary. Stone age is the appropriate term. The sad thing is, this phone isn't actually bad looking, but that horrible looking user interface is just soul destroying and messy, reminiscent of a PC Desktop with all the icons scattered everywhere creating an unpleasant mess.

Yawn...really boring to look at, i've said it before and i'll say it again, that OS needs a complete overhaul, get rid of static grid icons that look like they belong in 2005 and replace with a 3d type effect interface. I hope next year's lot are more exciting than this year's lot, sorry, but the GS2 underwhelms me as it's still using the same cookie clutter Android/Touch Wiz interface which is, tacky at best. All phone OS'es need a revolutionary user experience, icons really don't cut it anymore.
