Question?, 15 Aug 2018Why is there an option for choosing image stabilization? Who doesn't want that? For serious (i.e. planned) occassions, I would turn it off and use proper gimbal. EIS is useful in other occassions otherwise (no, I don't bring gimbal anywhere and I don't always have time to set it up before capturing important moments).
So Mi A2 gets 1080p 60fps and other Xiaomi devices cant support 1080p 60fps?????? (Mi8/Mi8 SE)
first line shows poket locker like setting?
Anonym, 15 Aug 2018Because unlike Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) crops t... moreWhich is the saddest part of EIS, all companies should have a really wide angle lens to capture bigger area and they can crop all they want to have a very stable video like the pixel.
Question?, 15 Aug 2018Why is there an option for choosing image stabilization? Who doesn't want that?Have an option is always good.

Question?, 15 Aug 2018Why is there an option for choosing image stabilization? Who doesn't want that?Because it also has its own disadvantages, and that it shouldn't be forced upon users to use it all the time. By default, it should work fine, so it's turned on, but there are cases where EIS isn't really needed, such as when the camera is going to be used on a gimball or something.
It's the same way we have RAW format for many flagship and even mid range & budget phones. Some people like photography geeks, who are interested in smartphone photography, would obviously want the pure capabilities of the phone camera, all without any software enhancements made by phone OEM.

Question?, 15 Aug 2018Why is there an option for choosing image stabilization? Who doesn't want that?Because unlike Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) crops the frame (ie. you lose part of the image) to do something which some could be done later (with more control/better algorithms) using video editing tools.
Convenience says the default should be on, as most users will realy on this "on-the-fly" EIS. Nevertheless, because of the loss of visual information due to the frame crop, it is more than warranted that an option exists to turn if off.
Thank you, I haven't noticed it since the release changelog hasn't stated that.
