That statement of yours is not true. As far as mainstream manufacturers go, Samsung has been the most loyal, and haven't given in. Their current flagships include the 3.5mm jack, notchless screen, SD card and also have a decently big battery. It's sad because Sony was once this awesome traditionalist maker, that even kept the dedicated camera button, when others long stopped using them.
What's inconvenient is carrying around a dongle for using your high-quality headphones. I don't get why they have to kill the 3.5 mm jack. Why not provide both the jack and the USB-C audio for versatility. You can use BT earphones if you already want to.

So the only real reason is the Apple's wish to remove features and make them obsolete, so as to push their products. Others just follow, without taking into consideration what the people actually want. Even iPhone X owners grumble about it's shortcomings, but they have no other option (too stuck in the iOS ecosystem).

Sony was stubborn in *keeping* the 3.5mm jack in *true* flagship phones for longer than any other, while cold hard data has always shown the people who buy these true flagships (unlike budget Chinese alternatives) not only didn't care that much for the jack as they actually never wanted the inconvenient wires in the first place.

The engendered one's ware relatively small so it's still all about how big pixels are & how many of them there is. Lens did see much more improvement. I clearly stated in the earlier comment how long awaited 22 nm FD-SOI will be a first one for both CMOS & RF.

Anonymous, 17 Aug 2018Funny. Xz2 premium 's camera is better than note 9's. Almost best camera is in xz2p. Another die hard fan which believes in fairy tales. Note 9 camera is probably best in business xz2 premium it's just another camera in a see of smartphones cameras

jrharbort, 17 Aug 2018It's not all about the numbers. Its improvements to the camera hardware itself and processing ... moreSensor is sensor, lens is lens and you can use today's software with cameras from 6 years ago. The oldy one is still ahead point & click cameras and point & click one's are ahead of everything less up to date used on smartphones.
You can make HDR photos with Nokija 808 (bickering x3 range - 2/2 afterwards process them into HDR one & future enhance them with today's software). All the stories about remarkable AI photo improvements are there for people who actually don't know how to take photos. Those who do will do it better. All the stories about two or three cameras doing a better job than a single better one are also very false one's. Don't get me wrong having more image sensors on single device isn't bad thing but not as camera 2, camera 3 but stocked together to form a single image. At the end I poses N808 & images it produces in pureview mode have fascinating amount of detail.
