This isn't any phone. Its a high-end phone representing the future. So you can't just say that 5 MP isn't that bad IF it has better sensor than an 8MP. But the mere fact that this phone has only 5 MP for its camera means that they didn't put that much thought on its imaging dept. Its that simple people.

SO the Galaxy S3 will come with the ICS, and it will have fantastic specs. Just see the Nexus S, it run on the Gingerbread, and after it the SG2 came, and it has much better specs then the Nexus S.

It depends on quality n type of screen... As both does 720p recordings but iphone's video quality is superb compared to htc.... I own a galaxy s which also has a 5mp hd cam whn i compared to my friend's desire hd with 8mp cam, i found my phone clicks better pic as well as does better video recordings compared to his phone....

Well there is a good outcome to Nexus having 5MP after all. Now suddenly EVERYONE magically knows that MP isn't everything in image quality lol.

There are so many statements in these comments, I don't know where to start.
Camera: A good 8mp camera has no advantages over a good 5mp camera. Please don't judge these things by numbers, it's silly.
Processor: 1.2 Ghz can perform better than 1.5 Ghz. This was proven by benchmarking 1.5 Ghz variant of GS2 to 1.2 Ghz variant of GS2. The 1.2 Ghz did a bit better. Again, please don't judge these things by numbers, it's silly.
Screen: HD screen with 1280 x 720 resolution. I think it's about ~310 ppi, close to Iphone4's ~330 ppi. At distance that people usually hold their phones, you wont see anything above 300 ppi. Doesn't matter if it's pentile, with that density, you wont be able to see the difference.

In case some of you don't know this phone is released by Samsung and Google.
That's why this phone doesn't have an Exynos CPU but a TI, and only 5mp camera for example.
Want better specs? Then wait for Galaxy S3. People @ Samsung are not that stupid to put their best hardaware on a joint venture.
Motorola doesn't count for me. New Super Duper Smartphone running on gingerbread? I guess it will have a locked bootloader, poor support and flimsy materials. Good luck getting ICS October next year...

You dont need 5MP... if you did your homework.. that 5MP is really good camera.. I would prefer the instant capture feature over 8 mp any day... Camera pixel are mostly just number.. its the sensor and lens more important..

can someone please answer a technical question for me? I have been using an iphone 4 on T-Mobile (USA) for the past year and I have been very happy with it EXCEPT for the EDGE Data speeds that I had to endure. I finally got rid of it in favor of going back to Android. I want to ask something of a technical question about the Camera. My iphone 4 had a 5mp camera and my HTC Amaze has an 8mp camera. My question is can someone please explain to me why the quality of pictures that the iphone 4 takes is SO AWESOME and the 8mp camera on my new HTC Amaze are just "okay" Will the camera on the Galaxy Nexus be as awesome as the Iphone? Does the quality of the picture have more to do with the Sensor than the actual MP?

It's not like it's a big deal, since I am sure i... moreI think everyone will start bashing me about this.. but, in my point of view, the 5mp is not really a deal breaker, why? Because as a photographer, i know that MP is not everything.. with the SAME sensor size and better ISO handling capability as well as improvements on the sensor itself, 5mp might be actually better in image quality than an 8mp.. while 5mp might not be able to reproduce as big a print as an 8mp, we should take into account, who would actually print bigger than A3 size paper from phone camera? If you need to do so, get a proper digital camera.. that's why when Nikon introduced the d3s, it was not 24.5MP like its predecessor the d3x, but rather a 16mp, which makes the pixels larger over the same sensor area and greatly improve its light gathering capability, while improving its noise handling capability as well.. people should really look into megapixel myth before claiming that more megapixels means better camera..
Oh, and i'm not a samsung fan.. in fact, i am not a fan of any particular brand/OS.. i just use whatever suits my preference and needs..

The display absolutely sells this phone for me. As for the camera - if you research a bit into the technology behind camera sensors, you will find out that often lower resolution chips produce better results. Especially if they are as small as those used in mobile phones. I would certainly wait for sample photos and videos before deciding.

people who complain about the camera has no idea about that 5 or 8 mp really does not make a difference on a phone.
this is a phone for folks who know and enjoy tech, not wanna be geeks.
