Their POS fashiophone (Which is extremely ugly and should be the least fashionable model) came later, but there were rumors (Inside info) of the notched design long before it was made official. So insane CEOs practically copied the iPhone (Not only the notch, but the removal of the 3.5mm jack) before it was made.

matix73, 20 Aug 2018To be honest, that would have to be the Sharp Aquos S2.Essential phone was announced May 2017, Aquos S2 in August 2017, so I think we can safely say Essential was first with screen notch in modern smartphones. It has existed prior to this though.
