Umbilical Noose, 21 Aug 2018As the years are passing Apple has been moving away from Samsung. SoC then display and who kno... moreYes, but the problem is that Samsung is so big in this industry. They are the only one who can complete Apple's screen demand. Also making display and Semiconductor in this much amount decrease the price so much than competition. They have 85℅+ in LED market-share , 46% in semiconductor and they are also the biggest manufacturer of storage devices. So till now, they are leader.

Anonymous, 21 Aug 2018Thing is, Huawei just overtook apple, and now samsungs just leftIt's been one quarter, we have to wait if that's permanently (i doubt it).

But neverless, Samsung is still far away; Huawei needs to increase their sells more than 60% which, in an already saturated market and without the US market, is really, really hard, to not say impossible.

Samsung is not the main hardware manufacturer for iPhones and it is a good thing that Apple is not relying heavily on one company. But irrespective of all this Samsung semi-conductor will keep on growing, sadly same can't be said for Samsung mobiles division.

The RAM and NAND you mention are mainly from SK Hynix and Toshiba respectively, Samsung does provides with those too, but not entirely.

But why should they focus on mobile business when they are making way more money from semiconductor business. And Huawei, Apple are their clients. So now they don't care who is ahead. Apple, or Huawei. Whoever, they will make dollars from them. If any OEM choose memory configuration like Note 9, 1TB, than also it will boost their semiconductor sale. Because Samsung has monopoly in storage devices too wether it's internal or external.

Of course Huawei have huge advantage over Samsung in their own market. I'm pretty sure they have much better deals as well for their phones in China.
And of course Huawei is buying stuff from Samsung and other companies because they are just now becoming big. They started as usual Chinese copycat company without investing in research and other fields where "big" companies had invest a lot of millions. Let's see what is something going to change now.
