Doom for iPhone and apple are nearing. Apple should not be allowed this patent as many devices use this gesture even before apple introduced. Stupid patent office, wondering how much apple paid for this to the patent office. I am wishing for apple to fail and down to dust because of their stupid business ethics. They are not protecting anyone here.
damn apple. i better stick with nokia.
Seriously, the patents laws are not always pretty, but are here to stay for now, unless something big happens in legislation.
Apple has also been on the receiving end in the patent lawsuits, settling with Nokia earlier this year.
Its just the way things are, and all the companies are jostling to protect their ideas. No big deal.

It doesn't matter who was first. The people who were first were stupid for not filing a patent. They didn't think it was important.
Apple did think it was revolutionary even though they never had a phone. Remember the patent is about Touchscreen devices and we know that iPad was also being planned. And it WAS revolutionary because every touchscreen phone or tablet maker has since gone on to use it.
Someone, 26 Oct 2011Nope. By law the Neonode can't be affected if they had the idea before the patent was filed.
... moreLike what Steve said, "Great artists steal."
I didn't realize he was talking about himself.
AnonD-27743, 26 Oct 2011This could potentially come back at Apple and bite them in the a**. If they sue, and other man... moreAgreed, slide to unlock is a patent held by Neonode in Sweden since 2001. I think American courts need to do a little more research before thinking that there is no life on the other side of the Atlantic. This whole situation is embarassing as American courts don't hold up in rest of the world. Apple are lucky that Neonode went bankrupt in 2007 and the company dissolved or Apple would certainly have been sued.
AnonD-19294, 26 Oct 2011just another reason to hate apple,,If it helps Apple to innovate, I would say it is another reason to love Apple. Same with other companies, because I like innovation in technology.

What Neonode didn't do was file the patent, Apple did. So the idea belongs to Apple even though someone may have used it first.
Neonode are exempt. Everybody else isn't.

That phone was announced 2005. 2 years before iPhone.
So no iOS wasn't the hurt to do slide to unlock.
Anonymous, 26 Oct 2011Android should sue apple for copying the notification bar!Notification bars have been around for ages, and Android certainly has no claim over it. If somebody were actually to sue Apple for the notification bar, they would probably sue Android along as well.
Anonymous, 26 Oct 2011Android should sue apple for copying the notification bar!"Google should sue Apple for copying the Notification Bar"??
Why? Did Google actually file a patent for that and get granted it?
AnonD-27742, 26 Oct 2011Neonode N1m had slide to unlock in an actual touchscreen phone in 2005.This could potentially come back at Apple and bite them in the a**. If they sue, and other manufacturers prove that this patent was in fact a prior art (Neonode), what happens in that case? Patent is void? Apple loses all of the court proceedings?
just another reason to hate apple,,

AnonD-27742, 26 Oct 2011Neonode N1m had slide to unlock in an actual touchscreen phone in 2005.Unfortunately, it is not always about who had it first, but who patented it first. Otherwise, it would be thousands of cases of "his word versus mine", which is why patent laws were probably drawn up in the first place.
This is ridiculous. Although I'm not that surprised to find out that the US are just protecting their own. All the more I want Apple to fail!
Max, 26 Oct 2011The things one can apparently get a patent for today are thoroughly ludicrous. Can I then pate... moreIt is only 'obvious' to you now, because of how popular it has become. How were Palm Pilots or the older Windows Mobile phones unlocked? Think about that time and see whether it was so 'obvious'.
This same thinking will come back later, when everyone screams how AI on phones like Siri are 'obvious'. It takes effort to introduce features onto gadgets, big or small, and the patent protection is there to reward that effort. I don't agree with everything and how its done, but I agree with it in principle.
If slide to unlock was the only way to unlock a phone, then maybe there would be reason for outrage, but it simply isn't. There are a variety of other ways to unlock a phone. Also, if it were the only way, and the most obvious, Apple may not have been granted the patent in the first place.
hi apple . dont be greedy to be a big brand...... remember.... android is easier to use and and it has its own fans......... more more and more..... whatever u want to do.... i love..android
