Because they are considered to be the very definition of premium Ness, everybody is trying to copy their characteristics, even the most unpractical ones.
The 7mm, thickness, the second cam, then the vertically orientated second cam, now the notch. All those come at the expense of battery capacity and functionality...

2nd/3rd cameras should always have a function. If you want to do portrait mode then just do it like Google with the machine learning features. Hell, I think they made their portrait mode code opensource

Not having a 3.5 mm jack (in addition to the SD card slot) is a huge deal-breaker.
OnePlus really has no excuse. Not when the Galaxy Note9 has a 3.5 mm jack, a SD card slot, a huge 4000 mAh and still has enough spare space to contain a whole S-Pen. Oh, and don't forget it also has IP68 ingress protection.
