Any chance that this could have affected the o/s itself? Seems weird that my unit would all of a sudden have a corrupt hard drive after this update.
Apart from some install bug, or file system update gone wrong, what is one thing in the OS that alters user and other files in a wide basis Defrag/file optimisation. I wonder if there is a bug in the code?
Dark theme for File Explorer is about all that's attractive to me for this update, so I may skip it unless it's mandatory. If you must have this latest update, well, shoot -- you can get a 64 gb flash drive for less than $15. Buy a few, and back up everything!!
I heard some poor guy lost 220GV of personal files going back a decade and he didn't have a backup.
As long as it deletes malware and other unwanted bloatware we wouldnt care right :-)
Lost my Linux files more often than on WinDOHs! How ever this is not good. OwO
updated last week, so far no files were lost. i tranferred my default document/music/pictures/videos location to another HDD, and wanted to make sure if affected users or systems uses the default directory location which is in the drive C....
installed it last week, so far, upon checking my files, everything is still intact. i have changed the location to another HDD installed from the default directory which is "users/documents" in the drive C.
Anonymous, 07 Oct 2018Downloaded it before the notice. No problems, but downloading and installing took over 2 hours.Wow, over 2 hours? It took me like 15-20 mins to get it done, then I went through my files and apparently every single file is where I keep them. So far so good.
I lost some doc and photos. Shall i uninstall to bring them back???

Geric.770, 07 Oct 2018Good thing my PC still rocks running 7 Ultimate! Windows 7 is supposed to be one of the best Microsoft OS. I remember having lots of crashes and blue screens and all kinds of minor problems that would buil up to a mess and having had to reinstall fairly often. If pc guys think that win 7 is better than 10 then I canÂ’t imagine the mess of win 10. I have stopped using Windows for ages and that was the best move IÂ’ve ever made. ItÂ’s good that Apple exists.
josh, 07 Oct 2018I fixed this... sold my microsoft surface pro 4 and am getting the MacBook air, I was so sick ... moreMy Mac is 7 years old and it still works perfectly well. I never had to fix anything. No broken keys or something faulty. I was driven to this Mac after a $1000 pc was useless after 1 year a few months. Since then I never looked back to Windows PCs and Microsoft programs.
Xp was the best , it was to good so microsoft had to kill it.. didnt expect this though..

Who am I kidding. Every way is go... moreI have 2 Windows 7 laptops. One is an old one from 2010, no big deal.
The other is a latest Msi GV62VR 7RF laptop with core i7 7th gen and Gtx 1060 6 gb and yes, it's running awesome with dual partition (windows 10 preinstalled and windows 7 professional original key)...
Yes, every time it starts, I get this bugging message that "incompatible hardware", but using zeffy's patch, I've updated it to a relatively safe level.... Its not foolproof though.
But at least, we're free from this Windows 10 crap.
My advice to you would be, have dual partition of Windows 10 and 7,and have major portion of your data in an external hard drive....
Ever since the the May 1803 build none of the windows store apps work in my PC including the store itself. Everything closes on bootup with something called a DCOM timed out error. I haven't really been bothered to fix it since I hardly ever use any windows store apps... I've seen many users report that issue with that update number and apparently MS released fix it for it immediately afterwards which still did nothing for users like me...
Anonymous, 06 Oct 2018I used to get completely wiped Recent, Temps and the typed data on Windows Run every-time I re... moreWell that depends I have had a lot less bugs in my win10 installaatiot than I had with win7...
The big problem is that there Are so many (infinite) number of different combinations that run Windows and Linux. I allways wonder how it is possible that They work at all... because of that diversity there is allmost always a possibility that something goes wrong. There Are more combinations than you can test in the lifetime. Apple only have a couple of different hardware combinations and even Apple has some times bugged upgrades... in pc there allways will be situations when something goes wrong.
The only way of avoiding it, is to have backupps. If you have backupp files you can recovery if and when something goes wrong. If you don`t upgrade some malious random ware will kill your system eventually. Sometimes your hard drive just die... things happens and backup is the only hope to avoid these kind of disasters!
