#No! to the O.
Samsung!, for your own sake (& ours) please step away from the Notch!
Maybe this O is a P.R. marketing gimmick so they can still claim that they have have a notchless, bezel-less display, & to save face from rivals who were ridiculed for their notches.
If you were going to do this, then it would be better to have this O centralised, and as close as possible to the the top or bottom of the frame (@ the bottom would be out of the way for portrait reading useage, and the user can always rotate the handset 180° for selfie/ video calls).
Even if it's a centralised u or n waterdrop micro notch would be better than this inset floating O punched through the corner of the screen.
If this O was invisible & not affecting the screen display then ok bravo, but it is visible, and also if the speakers are affected by this design change, then please don't do it.
1 of the main reasons people choose/ remain with Samsung smartphones is because they make the best screens with no notches or intrusions in their display panel.
We don't have any intrusion on our TV display panel or any other display panel & I don't want 1 on my phOne's display panel either, where it's even mOre nOticeable at clOse prOximity.
A dead pixel would be noticeable, but nOt nearly as bad as a hOle punched thrOugh the display.
No notch is best, having no notch is a U.S.P. nowadays, if Samsung isn't ready with the invisible underscreen camera, then no problem stick with the minimized top & bottom bezels for now and make the existing components even better, especially the speakers.
This would be my preference.
Or they could improve on the slider, making it as high IP as possible, >IP65.
Or do away with the front selfie camera & just use the main one on the back with a back screen, this should be relatively easy for a screen manufacturer.
Oh & if there's a Bixby button then please make sure it's a user defined smart button including all actions & none.

It is basically an end to end notch so that space is useless. Better to have some use of the left and right of my camera instead of empty useless space as in current Samsung phones. *That* is bad design.
Notches are bad but necessary stepping stone. "Thin" bars are neither of those. They are dead space for the most part.

Once can get used to the notch, cannot "get used" to a bigger display for no reason at all (thicker bezels) or a phone without FFC.
The users spoke, tech sites lost. People prefer notched phones.
Anonymous, 08 Nov 2018Close enough: it was sharp aquos s2. But you cannot deny that apple popularized it. But Essential was announced with that sepcific specification a lot earlier. Still, I indeed cannot deny that Apple popularized it.

Because in fact our eyes are mostly focused to the middle and bottom of the screen. Its just annoying when you play games in full screen because sometimes it hinder a button.
The future of phones is NO notch at all. All phones will be full display with camera and all of sensors under the display.More rear camera is OK, mechanical slider is also understandable, but please, don't be notched it. I am sure there will be no notch in the future. The notch should perished and extinct in the smartphone world.

The V and O are bullshit.
The real ones are U and none. They are teasing many shapes and after that the real winner will be no notch. This will please the crowd and kick in the balls the competition.

Because all those things you listed don't actually matter once you use the phone. I just got my Mate 20 Pro and I don't even think about it, not once. It doesn't impact my usage, the notification icons aren't a big deal because you get pop up notifications anyway and Huawei keep the clock on the right, not the left. Also videos only cut into the notch if you maximize them, which also cuts off the top and bottom, so why would you do that.

Luxor, 10 Nov 2018So? Whatever kinect they fit in there it is still HUGE. That an unavoidable fact. yeah! So just understand why it is huge! no need for a comparison. because it does what it supposed to do! dont make it hard for yourself to understand the fact!

So... is the Huawei Mate 10 the last phone for me? Because even they moved to >16:9 displays. Are we going towards a strip of a screen? I wish someone would make a 6" 3:2 display with the smallest bezels possible, no rounded sides or corners and a bit thicker, for better grip and bigger battery.
