Aspros, 13 Nov 2018So the 7 will "settle" without 5G, just like the 6T did without Led? Time to find a new Logo,... moredont forget the missing headphone jack :|.... (the sole reason i aint buyin a 6T and settled on 5T)
KingKaiPlanet, 12 Nov 2018The Dutch already have 5G :)...then, that would be AMAZING ;)
Apurv Anand, 13 Nov 2018In case you don't know this yet, money can buy such comments easily. Oneplus has always had me... moreWith the 6T, the camera is comparable to the 'true' flagships.
I think this is a false problem. 5G is not ready for wide mass usage. It requires another technology than 4G, another antennas, radios etc. basically a whole new infrastructure. It also requires another technology in phones, another antennas, basically a new internal setup that have to be translated into brand new assembly lines. Also, there's no practicality to have a 5G phone when you don't have 5G decent coverage and this won't happen before 2020-2021.
So why sell a phone that has a feature that increase its price a lot, but that feature have more than limited usage?
Heck, I wouldn't even bother to buy such phone (the speed of cable internet in my country is top 5 in the world) and I'll wait for the technology to be widely available and cheaper.
So, my guess is that OnePlus won't have this technology in its main device until, ad least, OP 9 because there's no real need/practicality to have it.
I sense this coming from Oneplus. They started their journey by making "flagship killer" phones (till 3T) and now they are aiming flagship specs with flagship pricing. TBH, they have made themselves a competitive brand and people no longer see it as a cheap phone. They have a very clean UI and if they get the specs right (5G, ingress protection, wireless charging, better camera quality), they can make more dents to the pricier OEMs like apple, samsung, LG, HTC. The only problem is, it would be interesting to see if people will still feel Oneplus would be a brand to spend $750-800 for their real flagship phones!!
My gut feeling is "No"
Shui8, 12 Nov 2018Actually its camera comparable to Pixel 3. Some parts even better, at least in daylight. - htt... moreIn case you don't know this yet, money can buy such comments easily. Oneplus has always had mediocre camera setup and people didnt complain coz the price was justified/balanced except the recent years where they are increasing prices with almost every iterations...
So the 7 will "settle" without 5G, just like the 6T did without Led?
Time to find a new Logo, change it from "never settle", to "minimum compromises"...
This is great news actually! The OnePlus phones price tag that we know of right now will probably remain the same.
Whole new line up for 5G? Just put in one device since they are going to increase the price
Sony Xperia FOREVER, 12 Nov 2018...what's the point of making a 5G network without coverage anywhere in the world? The Dutch already have 5G :)
Full flagship hardware + OnePlus' OS = bliss!
OnePlus definitely deserves to take a shot at this segment.
Anonymous, 12 Nov 2018Instead it will be called OnePlus ... wait for it ... 8 !! WoooooAre you insane.. ??!!
It would be called OnePlus 10.. :/
At any rate, this would be another U Turn by Oneplus. They publicly stated that they would only be focusing on one phone at a time, after they discontinued the OPX. But here we are.
This could actually be good. They could have a "Lite" flagship in the ~500 USD category and a full fledged Flagship with all the bells and whistles possible, at a higher price (~800 USD). Kind of like the Galaxy S and Note lines but way more distinct from each other.
Hell, they could even try and strip some unnecessary expensive stuff from the Lite model like the UD FP scanner and bring the price down to appeal to more buyers, especially those who have been disheartened by Oneplus's recent price hikes and switched to other companies.
This could be OP's return to glory after the unfortunate demise of the OnePlus X line(in terms of providing flagship phones to the masses).
That is a good strategy IMO. Currently OnePlus only offers "budget flagships" as opposed to proper flagship phones. Starting with next year, they can release two phones, one regular OnePlus phone and then a Premium version with high-end features like Wireless Charging, 5G support, IP Certification, etc.
They need to put proper dual-camera setup on both versions though. The fake dual-cam has outlived it's uselessness.
