Nice and good start but 16GB external storage? Very slow system with 2GB of Ram. They should invent a BT modem you can click onto you phone so you can use every android/iPhone like Iridium had in the beginning.

This specification is out of date if you campare it with Samsung S23 or iPhone 14 Pro Max. I dont even think this phone can run games smoothly.

X5 is an excellent phone only and a very bad smartphone. If you install many apps then all of a sudden a menacing message appears upon switching on the mobile „system process not responding“. The only solution is to reset the mobile to the factory default. The manual is very cryptic and very often useless. Thuraya support no answer. So beware that the only use of this system is to communicate. Not much for a device costing much more, than 1k dollars?

I think Globalstar is more on the right track - their Sat-Fi 2 allows you to use Wi-Fi devices on their satellite network, just by downloading their app.

EVEN THOUGH this is a satelite phone. the chipset is OLD. I honestly don't expect flagship specs on the thing. but atleast a decent chip like 710? (or maybe the 636) and 2 GB of ram in android really going to kill it. except low end, do you know ANY midrange phones that preforms well in 2 GB of ram IN THE ANDROID world?

I would have made it a 5000mAh phone though, since there are many phone models with a battery that big. It's supposed to be a lifesaver, would be a shame if it ran out of battery. 5Ah for that matter isn't overkill

It seems that most people commenting here has no god-damn idea, what satellite phones are, and to whom they are marketed... This is not a mobile Playstation, and this is not a device for Instagram browsing, for f**k sake - this a life saving communication tool for explorers, mountain climbers, professional hikers, and engineers at remote facilities or middle of the ocean. Nobody gives a crap about the amount of RAM or Android version running on this device, you nitwits! Also people who use these phones doesn't care about the fact that minute of call costs some 5$ on this! Just shut up already, and go educate yourself.

I mean, Trekker are way more affordable and with the same IPs standards for half the price

Those satellite connections are not very fast, so you don't need speedy prosessor neither. You just want that the battery last many, many days because next charging plase can be hundreds of kilometers away!

                                  That price kills.
Also the satelite using is more than a super expensive.
Its maybe a life saver if you are able to call from anywhere within the world no matter the weather conditions even from Mount everest but just few minutes could cost more than man can earn in a month.

Thuraya X5-Touch can be a life saver, imagine yatching middle of ocean and experience life threatening situation, a satellite phone does not have to be a smart phone, feature phone is just a good on the basis that feature phone has significant better battery life, up to weeks, while the best smart phone only has maximium battery life of a few days, which will save lives but with a smart phone with limited battery span, a bit pointless

Satellite Monthly $50.00 Activation $47.50 $1.49/Minute (0 included minutes) also no texting or data.
Can only see limited market for this. Competition has only primitive phones though. Iridium has a wifi call, data and sms gizmo. Service is not cheap for it.
