The only real advantage it has is that it's color accuracy is good. But that's an easy change in the settings of the galaxy. And auto exposure is super easy to adjust on both.
Come back when you've put the apple down or actually experienced both

Like, i buy all the phones, set up a scientifically controlled experiment and use scientific methods to draw conclusions thereof. Therefore i can verify this article and recommend that everyone go out and buy multiple apple products, especially the XR if their budget doesnt quite reach the XS. :p

Wow, very good screens and now the best single camera phones. We're spoilt for choice. I may even buy one of each. The screens are minimum 326ppi and that's all that matters. The panels are well calibrated like Apple have been doing for some time now. So againno complaints. Go ahead folks, if you have the money then buy, buy, buy!

But this uproar... moreThe iphone 8 is equally bad in terms of resolution, yes, but it's also a small screen device for people why probably don't do all that much on their phones. So who cares anyways, and it's last years bad news, not this years.
The XR is a large screen device, but the screen is let down by poor resolution, no matter how much you cry otherwise. And no, the XR is not a good buy compared to other iphones. As already mentioned, you can get a used iphone X for less, or a new iphone 8 plus for less. The XR is a bad buy, it's as simple as that. It's better than some of the older ones, sure (duh!), but that obvious fact doesn't change that it's a bad buy.

There wasn't this uproar about the iPhone 8 screen, and this screen is better than that.
The properties of mobile chipsets is such that they can compare even beat laptop chipsets over short time intervals, but you are right, that sustained demanding usage will throttle and that's the advantages that desktop and laptop chips, with fans and better thermal. This isn't unique to Apple chips, Snapdragon is the same. You barely pay a premium for Apple anymore when compared to Samsung. Lots of Apple customers are happy to pay a premium for the service, the Apple stores, the easy on site repair/replacement. A simplicity and way of working that isn't available elsewhere.
The iPhone XR is a great phone. Would it be better if it was £100 cheaper? of course, but same could be said for anything. You can only compare it to other iPhone's, and in that sense, it is a great option for most iPhone upgraders or switchers

The A12, as all other iphones the past years, throttle very quickly, and the reason is simple they produce a lot of heat and the cooling system is not good enough. Yes, it's a beast, but the phone can't handle it so it throttles.
Almost all phones now use IPS panels from LG or Sharp. You have to go way beack in time to find crappy TN panels with bad colors, color shift etc. The XR doesn't even have a particularly deep black level, it's only strong side is maximum brightness in sunlight, otherwise it's just like everyone else, except low pixel count on a big surfcae = bad experience for those gifted with 20/20 sight or better.
Desperately trying to justify a bad purchase decision is standard apple procedure, just accept that you pay the premium for the partly eaten apple logo and get on with it.

you talk about $100 phones. Show me a $100 phone with a screen as good as iPhone XR? You might find one with more pixels, but how good are those pixels? More doesn't always equal better. Camera megapixels anybody?
You use a fortnite example for your chipset dig. Maybe fortnite is the problem? Didn't consider that though. A12 bionic is a beast. End of

Buy Apple not a lemo, 10 Dec 2018Why don't you just get yourself an iPhone and be done with it. You love them so much that you ... moreWow, what a lame comment.
Why on earth would I get such a device as iphones reperesent? Huge notches that just ruins the UI and you have to pull down for notifications and battery percentage every time, unimpressive battery life, a CPU and GPU that overheats after 2 minutes of heavy use then throttles way down. Sounds like bad tech to me, amazing that the are simepletons out there buying this and thinking it's good, particularly the low res XR with toy like design in their thick bezels. One can't even properly appreciate the pictures it takes on that low resolution screen.
There is so much better to choose from. I get that you're all about logo and nothing more, but for people who aren't as simple minded as you, the iphones just aren't attractive devices if looked upon objectively. If you can comprehend what that means.
I know a lot about iphones, and most other widely sold phones, because I'm into tech and I spend about $2000-3000 a month on new things (tech, gadgets, tools, machines etc) just because I love trying new things, cell phones are included in that amount, but not necessarily just for me, as a matter of fact the past nine phones I've purchased I've given to others. I buy, I try, some are kept longer, some just to give away. I like buying gifts for others too :-)
But I don't like bad value and awkward compromises, and unfortunatelly that's what the iphones are made up of. The only good ingredients that aren't held back by the rest of the build and/or software are the Sony cameras in them. Not the best, but pretty good. So it's not all bad, just mostly bad.

You love them so much that you come on here listing every detail about them and then painting them in a negative. That's the best love/hate relationship i've ever seen. Again you focus on the A12, but the A12 is choking on the XR due to poor design, that does not allow for the heat to dissipate. So it throttles very quickly and the A12 is only good for benchmarks, not real life performance. And then you're left with a crap fest of a screen and why on earth would you keep this awful product over several years? Oh right, because you paid so much for it.
No wonder apple is subsidising carriers in Japan to have them sell the XR to make their statistics looks better. This to combat the fact that the majority is opting for the 8 and 8 plus over the awful XR.
You defending your horrible purchase is fair, it's not common for people to stand for their mistakes, but you should've gotten just about any other smartphone from the $300 range and up over it.
But by all means, keep telling yourself that it doesn't throttle and that the battery is great and the screen is great even though it is 100% false. What ever helps you convince yourself that you didn't buy a crappy product at a premium price. Just keep telling it to yourself and no one else, then I'm happy. Don't try to convince others to keep you company by making the same mistake as you. But I get it, misery likes company.

Clearly youÂ’ve never seen it in person as you spread the same vile as the others when it comes to the screen.
The XR was never marketed as a “budget” Iphone nor for it to be an entry point. The A12 alone pretty much puts this in a flagship league. It will get updates for years to come, unlike the android “equivalent” you desperately tried to compare it with.
Previous years flagship are kept as entry points. ThatÂ’s been the business model of Apple for years. I donÂ’t know why fandroids spit the same dribble every year?
Anonymous, 08 Dec 2018please go on and explain. stay away from the XR. Great camera, industry leading performance. I... moreTechnically speaking almost all devices are great, given the right price, and the XR is flagship priced for a (entry level) budget screen, and what is the number 1 interface we have with the phone? The screen. You can get 1080p IPS screens in devices at $100.
Not only is the XR lower res, but it's not even a standard resolution of any sort.
Other than skimping on screen and providing it with a single camera, instead of dual the flagships (XS and XS Max), what else did they drop to cut cost on this one? RAM, the siblings has 33% more of it. 33%
RAM isn't even that expensive anymore in cellphones, this is why you can get 4GB phones (which also has 1080p screens) at around $100, So do you deem the decrease in XR as both fair and perfect?
Design, it has the thickest side bezels I've seen in quite a while. And that's even when it has this iphone x-type design - which is supposed to be their bezel less deisng, minus the massive notch. It just looks plain awful.
So let's keep hunting for that redeeming feature, shall we?
Apple claims it's their best battery performer. Let's take a closer look at that. It has the right ingredients, low resolution screen, low amount of RAM, but it's battery performance is anything but impressive.
Power then? Despite the low RAM it still has the A12 right, and it's a beast right? And running only 828 x 1792 instead of 1242 x 2688 should make this beast simply crush any game right? False, as it throttles pretty quickly due to poor design and overheating. Good enough to win fanboys in short benchmark tests, not good enough to sustain 60fps gaming on demanding titles.
So what is the conclusion? It's that if one for some reason is set on ios and nothing else matters, but one cannot get a XS (Max) due to price, then get a used X or even a new 8 Plus. The XR is just not wort it's retail price, half of and it would be more fair, but I still wouldn't select it.
Overall the XR is a budget device with a flagship price. Very disappointing.
